What he hates is being stuck in a traffic congestion. Your plan for me to start early does not appeal to me.

What he hates「彼が大嫌いなこと」が主語, is が動詞, being stuck in a traffic congestion「交通渋滞で動けなくなること」が補語として続いています。 Your plan for me to start early does not appeal to me

(1)He hates being called by his first name. (2)Today airplanes are considered to be safe. He hates to be called by his first name. He hates that he is called by his first name. Today we consider airplanes are safe.

He could not make himself what he had wished to be. と He could not become what he had wished to be.
