課題の丸投げは禁止されているので、回答も禁止されてますが、ヒントだけ・・・ Chinese leaders hope ・・・～ は ～ を期待している prosperity will help to ・・・～ は ～を助けるだろう to still ・・・ここでは「静まらせる」 call by Ａ for Ｂ で、ＡによるＢという要求 です。 あとは、丁寧に辞書を引けばわかるはず。 こういう課題が出るということは、質問者様は高校生か大学生だと思いますが、もっと丁寧に辞書を引いて自分でやらないと、いつまでたってもできるようにはなりませんよ。

文法と解釈のやり方を教えて下さい。 （英文） The Wall Street Journal carried a report recently from a part of Croatia where many thousands of ethnic Serbs were driven from their homes in 1995 in what a former European Community mediator calls ``the most efficient ethnic cleansing we've seen in the Balkans.” とありまして、私がなんとか考えた訳が、 「ウォールストリートジャーナルは、１９９５年に何千ものセルビア民族が自分の祖国を追放されたクロアチアの一部から最近レポートを送った・・・・・・・・・」なのですが、、1995以降のin whatがどういう風に文章につながるのか、文法的にはなんなのか、文全体の構造はどうなっているのか、などがわかりません。 あと、細かいことですが、ethnic Serbs は、前者が名詞で、後者が形容詞（辞書に載っていました。）だとすると、語順がおかしくないですか？？ どなたかご解説お願いします。

もうひとつ、Time誌からお尋ねします。3/29号の文(アジア版”22ページから23ページ台湾の総統選挙についての記事）に、 "Beijing stridently insists on the maintenance of what it calls the status quo -which refers not to Taiwan's de fact independence *but its claim of being a government-in-exile for all of China."があります。 *のところから後ろのところがよくわかりません。 (1)but itsのitsは”Beiginの”か、"台湾政府の”か（前者だと思うのですが）、 (2)中国政府だとすると、"claims of being.."のof以下の主語は中国政府となって（それともTaiwanTaiwan'sを省略できる？)、亡命政権であるというclaimというのと矛盾しませんか？かといって、”台湾政府の”だと、前のwhich refers to の主語"中国政府”と合わないし・・ (3)それと、for all Chinaは、どういう意味でしょうか？ どうか、よろしくお願いします。できれば、*but 以下を訳していただきたいのですが。

The continent's backing was vital in getting mainland China into the United Nations in 1971. 中国とアフリカの緊密な関係は何十年にも渡る。（go back decadesがちょっと・・・） この後が訳せません。to whenというとwhen自体の品詞は何になるのでしょうか。 似たような文章で、 A lot of it comes down to where Chinese firms have their comparative advantage and these are fast-growing markets. 上記の文がありますが、この場合のwhereの働きと品詞などもちょっと訳しきれないというか・・・。 よろしくお願いいたします。
