ずっと以前は学校では Ａ：How do you do ? B: I'm fine thank you が一般的な挨拶の一つとしてされていました。 でも、いまは学校の英語テキストからも 「How do you do ?」という挨拶英語はなくなり、 「How are you ?」「How are you doing ?」に なっているようですね。 現地のアメリカ人（大学の言語学の先生）にMailで 聞いたら「、How do you do ? は最近はあまり 聞いたことがない」と言われました。 ただ、旧英国植民地の現地人やアメリカでも かなりの年齢の人なら使う事もあるかもと・・ 通常は How are you (doing ) ? とのことで、それに対する 返事も,そのまま「How are you ?」と返したりするが その他にも Great / certainly / exactly / good 等様々のようです。 でも、Great / certainly / exactly / good は何か違和感が あるように感じますが、どうなんでしょう？ 素直に「How are you ? 」と返す方が自然でしょうか？

はじめまして。 国内旅行中に知り合い、仲良くなったオーストラリア人がいます。 これから彼が東京に住むというので 連絡先の交換をしました。 それから 週2でご飯に行ったり、飲みに行ったりしています。 メールは毎日のようにしています。 毎回、会った後にメールがきて 君と遊ぶ時はいつも楽しいよ。と言ってくれます。 そして 一ヶ月後ぐらいに酔った勢いもあってエッチをしてしまいました。 その後も二人でご飯に行ったり メールも毎日は変わりません。 その後は、そのような関係はありません。 道で抱っこをしてくれたりしますが。笑 先日 昼間にお花見に出かけようとしましたが 雨で中止になってしまいました。 その時は 会いたいし、雨も止んだから夜から会おう！と 言うので夜桜を見に行ったり。 友達を含めた飲み会に私が参加できない。言うと 絶対きて。来ないとさみしい。泣く。 とメールが着ましたが その後に You are good friend of mine っと書いてありました。 これってどうなのかな？って思ってしまって。 来月から数ヶ月、日本を離れる私に対して さみしい。友達がいなくなっちゃう。と言っています。 他にまた友達ができるよ！言ったら でも君は世界中に一人だから。って。 彼は私に気がない訳ではないと思うのですが でも「友達」って言葉を連呼されるとなんか悲しくなってしまって。 私はこの後、しばらく遠距離になっても 関係を深めたいと思っていたのですが 友達のままで終わってしまうものなんでしょうか？ 彼はどう思っているのか？ 会える時間も少ないので今後どうしよかと悩み中です。 アドバイスお願いします。

- "look"と"looks"について（添削お願いします）
先程ペンパルから、私の文法ミスについて↓のように指摘がありました。 when you write "looks" thats good but when you are telling someone that they look a certain way you don't put the "s" in the word. really the only time you would use "looks" is if you are talking to a person about someone like....."He looks good"or" he is looking good". but when you are talking about a person and telling something about them you would say "you look... you don't need to add the s in the word...... 私が誰かとある人について話している時は「He "looks" good」のようにlookの後に"s"を入れていいが、私がある人のルックスについて話していて、そのことを本人に伝える場合は、「you "look"・・」のように"s"を加える必要がない、という意味でしょうか・・？ 頭がこんがらがって全く意味が分かりません・・・。 意味不明な文章で申し訳ありません！ どなたか添削お願いします！すみませんがよろしくおねがいします。

The chief attraction slang has for people is novelty. It is fun to hear an idea phrased in a new, unusual way. But after hundreds of repetitions, the novelty wears off: the slang loses freshness and sparkle. The history of most slang expressions is that die an early death. Words like "dreamy" and "crummy'' are slang of this kind and add little to style or meaning. Slang should be used with caution. A safe prescription is this: in conversation with friends, use it, but in small doses. Use it even less frequently in informal writing, making sure that what you use is appropriate to the subject and will not annoy readers. Never use it in formal speech or writing. If you read a great deal and listen with interest to the speech of people who use language well, you will gradually develop a reliable judgment about the appropriateness of slang.
