its と it's は発音も同じで紛らわしいことがあります。 (1) its は, it の所有格です。「それの」 (2) it's は, it is または it has の短縮形です。 さて例文で考えるとして、(1) の所有格だとすると、its のすぐ後に名詞が来たりするはずですから違いますね。 (2) だとして、it has の短縮形だとすると、"it has been" とか "it has 名詞" のように続くはずですが、そうはなっていません。ということで、 it is (it's) of no use だろうと結論づけます。 of no use は "of 名詞" で形容詞的になったものです。

よく外国人（主にアメリカ人）とメールのやりとりをするのですが、気になっていることがあります。文頭にIt is...とくる文章で、短縮形をIt'sではなくIts...と書いている人が結構多いような気がするのです。（例えば 'Its' difficult for me to see... のような文章です。）仕事関係で受け取ったメールでも、it isの短縮と思われる場面でItsとなっているのを見かけます。本来、It'sだと思うのですが、itの所有格としてではなく、Itsと書かれるのは、ひとつの書き方として認められているのでしょうか、それとも単によくある間違いなのでしょうか。教えてください。
