ネットで見かけたのですが、どういう意味なのでしょうか？ アメリカ人：Hey wanna hear a joke? 日本人：Sure go on アメリカ人：King 日本人：I don’t get it アメリカ人：Exactly!

想像力を駆使して（つまり、多分に推測交じりですが）以下のとおりお答えします。 ＞ネットで見かけたのですが、どういう意味なのでしょうか？ アメリカ人：Hey wanna hear a joke? 日本人：Sure go on アメリカ人：King 日本人：I don’t get it アメリカ人：Exactly! ⇒アメリカ人「やあ、ジョーク聞きたい？」―日本人「もちろん、聞かせて」 ―アメリカ人「Ｋしてるとこ」―日本人「分らん」―アメリカ人「大正解！」。 ＊King「Ｋしてる」とは、おそらくKnowingをなぞかけ的に暗示しているのでしょう。I'm knowing.「（分らないので）知ろうとしている」と言うための「ひねり」である、という解釈です。ということは、King「知ろうとする」は、I don’t get it.「分らない」の結果であり、「代置表現」でもある、と言えるでしょう。

先日アメリカの友人から、久々に手紙がきたのですが、日本文の最後に”Don't dream it, Be it.”とかかれていました。どういう意味なのでしょうか？

「分かりません」ということを表現するのに、I don't know. と言うと無責任で突き放したような意味になるから、I'm not sure. と言いなさい、と教えられたことがあったように思うのですが、これは正しいのでしょうか？ しかし、実際にアメリカで暮らしてみて、I don't know. という表現も意外と聞きます。となると、どういう風にこの２つの表現を使い分けたらいいのでしょうか。いまだに「分かりません」と言いたい時に、どちらの表現を使っていいのかとまどっています。

これは日本語を習っている人(男性）と、英語を話し始めた私の間の会話です。 ---僕が随分ふけて見られる理由の一つに、だんだん薄くなってきてるのがある。 この年ではげ始めてるんだ。お父さんもはげてる。--- という話をしていました。 私は I wish you won't go bald.と言った後、 It doesn't matter to me. So don't worry about that. と言いました。そして I don't care if you go bald someday. と言えばよかったと思いました。 It doesn't matter to me.には「私には関係ないわよ、アンタのガールフレンドじゃないんだから」 というような雰囲気があるのでしょうか。 そうだとしたら失礼だったかなと思います。
