ｗｈｉｃｈの処理
Ａ land which in times gone by the local people could use as a kind of communal grazing ground for their cows. 全体的な意味は何となく解るのですが、which in times gone by～の部分が上手く解釈できません。この場合のwhichはどのように訳す事ができるのでしょう？文法的な説明も兼ねて、ご教授していただければと思います。

A land which (in times gone by) the local people could use as a kind of communal grazing ground for their cows. 昔は地元の人が自分達の牛のための一種の共有牧草地として使用できた土地 括弧でくくったin times gone byのところがちょっとわかりにくいですが、このかたまりで「過ぎ去った時代には＝昔は」の意味だと気付いてしまえば、それほど複雑な構造ではありません。

a land which (is) in times (that) gone by と補うことで、よりイメージが具現化するのではないでしょうか。 《過ぎ去りし時の流れに取り残された土地》
