The Problems with English Education in Japan

  • English education in Japan focuses heavily on input methods of studying, such as listening and reading, while neglecting output methods like writing and speaking. This results in a poor TOEFL score for Japan compared to other Asian countries.
  • In contrast, Germany's English education system is highly effective as it prioritizes practical application. People in Germany spend more time practicing speaking and writing, which helps them become proficient in English.
  • Improving English education in Japan by emphasizing output methods would lead to better language proficiency and higher TOEFL scores, similar to Germany's successful approach.

English education in [J]apan is [terrible], because [it focuses mainly] on [the] input [side] of studying, such as listening and reading, [while we practice little on the] output [aspects,] such as writing and speaking. Even though we [study English] from middle school to college, [Japan's] TOEFL (test of English language proficiency for non-native English language speakers) score is [among the worst] in Asia. [In contrast, German] people speak English very well because [their] English education system is very good. [They focus more on the practical aspects, spending more time on speaking] and writing, insted of listening and reading.

English education in Japan is very bad, because it mainly focuses on input and mainly teaches listening and reading, while students don't usually practice such outputting activities as writing and speaking, even though they have been studying English for ten years from middle school to college. TOEFL (Test Of English language proficiency For non-native English Language speakers) scores of Japanese are at the worst level in Asia. On the other hand, German people can speak English very well because English education system in Germany is very efficient, which focuses on more practical side of it, so that people can speak English, they spend more time in speaking and writing, rather than listening and reading. 以上でいかがでしょうか?

Though Churchill was unable to suggest an alternative, a critical view of the British on the Somme has been influential in English-language writing ever since. As recently as 2016, historian Peter Barton argued in a series of three television programmes that the Battle of the Somme should be regarded as a German defensive victory. A rival conclusion by some historians (Terraine, Sheffield, Duffy, Chickering, Herwig and Philpott et al.) is that there was no strategic alternative for the British in 1916 and that an understandable horror at British losses is insular, given the millions of casualties borne by the French and Russian armies since 1914. This school of thought sets the battle in a context of a general Allied offensive in 1916 and notes that German and French writing on the battle puts it in a continental perspective.

Also, virus hepatitis is an important problem. Nearby half of the deaths are Non-Communicable Diseases(NCDs) but the proportion of infectious disease and perinatal and nutritional problems are still high compare with similar income level countries. The maternal mortality rate has declined from 100,000 births in 1990 to 431 in 2015, but there is still much room for improvement in pregnancy / delivery care and family planning. Changes in the child mortality rate at the same duration show that improvement rate is lower than in middle and low income countries, especially in neonatal. Main causes of infant mortality include low birth weight(19%), complications occurring in perinatal period (13.0%) along with acute respiratory infection (17.0%), diarrhea (11.0%). The problem at the period just before and after delivery is also considered to be large. • 英文解釈なのですが、

英文解釈で、なぜ答えがそうなるのかわからず困っています。 (1)In Germany today, you can already hear words such as walk, cancel, happy, relax, and baby. (2)None of these words is originally German. (3)All are new imports from English, and it seems that every day more and more of these new words from English are entering the German language. という英文で、 Q.3文目のAllを4語で表しなさい。 で、学校の先生は、答えを「None of these words 」としたそうなのですが、違う気がするのですが。 Noneのように否定の意味が入ることがなぜなのかわかりません。 私は「Anyone of these words 」「Each of these words 」などを考えたのですが、Allの後ろがareで複数なので、どうかと思います。 なぜ答えが「None of these words」なのか。 他の答えではいけないのか。 教えてください。よろしくお願いします。

In English writing we seldom speak of tradition, though we occasionally apply its name in deploring its absence. We cannot refer to “the tradition” or to “a tradition”; at most, we employ the adjective in saying that the poetry of So-and-so is “traditional” or even “too traditional.” Seldom, perhaps, does the word appear except in a phrase of censure. If otherwise, it is vaguely approbative, with the implication, as to the work approved, of some pleasing archaeological reconstruction. You can hardly make the word agreeable to English ears without this comfortable reference to the reassuring science of archaeology. ●In English writing we seldom speak of tradition, though we occasionally apply its name in deploring its absence. traditionは「伝統」という訳し方でよいでしょうか? On 1 August 1914, Germany declared war on Russia. On the outbreak of war with its eastern neighbour, Germany put the Schlieffen Plan into action, and Luxembourg's government's fears were realised. Initially, Luxembourg was only a transit point for Albrecht von Württemberg's Fourth Army. One of the railways from the northern Rhineland into France passed through Troisvierges, in the far north of Luxembourg, and Germany's first infringement of Luxembourg's sovereignty and neutrality was the unauthorised use of Troisvierges station. Eyschen protested, but could do nothing to prevent Germany's incursion.
