1. There is a limit to the number of people. 上記文の「limit」の部分に、「restraint」を入れる事は出来ないのでしょうか？ 出来ますが意味が違います。There is a limit to the number of people. limit の場合は「（収容人員）の数に制限がある」と言う意味です restraint は拘束すると言う意味ですから、「多数（縄などで）縛られている人が居る」ことになります。しかも可算名詞（下記の４）に不定冠詞ですから、一人一人ではなく十把一絡げ的に一本のロープで縛られている」と言うことになります。 http://www.ldoceonline.com/dictionary/restraint ２。このような場合何が言いたいかを抜きにして、英和辞典の類義語を探しても、時間のムダになることが多いと思います。

＃１です。補足です。 ＞＞そろそろ、英英辞典を使う事を、考えないといけないですね。 いえ、これは辞書の問題と言うより、字面の入れ替えの段階から脱出して、どのようにして言葉の奥の「意味」をお考えになるかにお移りになると、楽なのではないかと思っただけです。

Certainly there is nothing that will separate people more, and nothing so easy to slip into. これほど人々を引き離すものはなく、これほどあなたが陥りやすいものもありません とありますが、 (1)上記の「これほど～ない」ってどこから出てくるんですか？ There is nothing で「ここには何もない」のは分かりますが「これほど」にはつながりません。なにか構文めいたものなのでしょうか？（there is nothing と来たら「これほど～ない」となるとか）。 (2)will とは未来形助動詞「～するだろう」のwillでいんでしょうか。 (3)more は「（自己中だと）人はより離れていく」の more ではないのでしょうか。 要は自己中は、人が離れていくし、本人も無自覚だってのは分かるんですけど、二文目の中に "self-centeredness" に変わる "it" とか何もないもんですから、どうしても分かりません。 ちなみに https://detail.chiebukuro.yahoo.co.jp/qa/question_detail/q1178191891 でも同じ文があるのですが、私の聞きたいことはそれじゃありません。 なんで上記の文になるのかがさっぱり不明です。 どうぞよろしくお願いいたします。

There are lots of people.の構文がわかりません。再度、質問です。 There are lots of people.の文で、主語は lots ですか、それとも people ですか。 辞書では、a lot of は 沢山の と訳しているので、全体が形容詞的働きをして、そのあとの people を修飾しているようにも思えます。 a lot が名詞で、of が同格ならば、 There is a lot of people.となるということでしょうか。 There are a lot of people.とはならないのでしょうか。 よろしくお願い致します。

ある大学入試対策用の文法・語法問題集に次の問題があります。 次の日本文の意味になるように（ ）内の語を並べかえて英文を完成させなさい。 その国で見られるものすべてをぜひ見たいと思っています。 I am ( be / is / anxious / see / seen / there / to / to / what ) of the country. 期待される答えとしては I am ( anxious to see what there is to be seen )of the country. しかないと思います。英和活用大辞典（研究社）のseeの項目にIt is quiet little town and you can see what there is to be seen of it in a couple of hours.（ここは静かな町で、２時間もあれば見るべきものをみんな見ることができる。）がありました。ここで質問ですが、 このwhat there is to be seen of...の部分はどういう結びつきになっているのでしょうか？特に、whatとof...は意味的に直接結びついているのでしょうか？googleでhear what there is to be heard ofやfind what there is to be found ofで検索してみましたがヒットしませんでした。ということは (be) seen of ...という結びつきが強いということでしょうか？

参考書に "Learning grammer is of great importance to understanding a language." という例文がありました。 "Learning grammer is of great importance to understand a language." という文は間違いですか？ もし間違いなのであればその理由はなぜでしょうか。 もし間違いではないのであれば、2つの文の意味・ニュアンスはどう違うのでしょうか。
