最初にストテンが自主制作を模索したのは2008年の再結成の時点であったが、 アトランティックレコードは彼らを告訴したのだ。 告訴理由は、会社のアーミー・オブ・エニワンとの契約に基づき、 デリオ兄弟は作品をリリースしたものの、スコット・ウェイランド及び エリック・クレッツは契約下にあり、更にストテンの次回作アルバムの権利を 未だに保有しているというもの。 ストテンはアトランティックの要求を受け入れ、2010年のカムバックアルバム 『ストーン・テンプル・パイロッツ』レコーディングしたが、 これはウェイランド参加の最後の作品となった。 アルバムは初登場第2位、ラジオヒットの『ビトウィーン・ザ・ラインズ〔行間〕』を生んだ。 残ったストテンのメンバーはこれを期して、件の契約からは解放された模様である。
