- 具体的には、We'd hitch up the Airstream trailer to my grandfather's car, and off we'd go, in a line with 300 other Airstream adventures.の「off we'd go」の意味と、As a civilization, we will have so many gifts, just as you as individuals have so many individual gifts as you sit before me.の「as」の意味が知りたいです。

英訳に関して質問があります。アマゾンのボスのJeff Bozosさんがプリンストンでやった、commencementのスピーチで、どういう構造になっているか分からない箇所があったので、どなたか、分かる方が説明して下さったら幸いに思います。 １、We'd hitch up the Airstream trailer to my grandfather's car, and off we'd go, in a line with 300 other Airstream adventures. ポイントはこの"and off we'd go"の部分です。offから文が始まってるんですかね？このoffがなければ文としては構造は分かるのですが、offの働きがわかんないです。 ２、As a civilization, we will have so many gifts, just as you as individuals have so many individual gifts as you sit before me. ポイントは最後のasの節です。見つけた全訳のページでは 「私の前に座っている君たちが、個人として、それぞれの才能をたくさん持っているように、文明人として、私たちは多くの才能を享受していくようになるはずです。 」 結局どういう意味のasなんですかね？理由や比較じゃない気がするんですが？ こちらのページで見ればスピーチの開始から見れます。５つ目のやつです。 http://www.brainpickings.org/index.php/2011/06/10/best-commencement-graduation-speeches/ 最初の質問は7:08に二つ目の質問は12:42で言ってます。 まだまだ勉強中の身で英語は分からないことばかりです。非常に初歩的な質問かもしれませんがよろしくお願いします。

１。 下記の go off 「出かける」「出発する」と言う句動詞の１２番目の意味です。 http://eow.alc.co.jp/search?q=go+off この手の句動詞は倒置されて、Down you go 「そら降りろ」, Up she went 「あっという間に彼女はあがって行った」, Off we go 「さっそく僕らは出発した」のように、強調した表現になりますが、 off we go などは少々使い古しの嫌いがあるので、強調もくたびれた感じです。 ２。最後の as は、下記の接続詞の４「～の時のように」で、「現在みなさんが私の前に座っているちょうどその時のように」という意味になります。 http://eow.alc.co.jp/search?q=as

> We'd hitch up the Airstream trailer to my grandfather's car, and off we'd go, in a line with 300 other Airstream adventures. off we go は we go off の off が強調のために前に出されたものですが、「さぁ、いよいよ出発だぁっ！」 という気持ちが、off が前に出されることで伝わってきます。 > As a civilization, we will have so many gifts, just as you as individuals have so many individual gifts as you sit before me. 確かなことは分かりませんが、その日本語訳から判断しても、like と同じ意味で使われているのではないかという気がします。like you sitting before me （私の前に座っている君たちのように） ということではないでしょうか。sitting がなぜか sit になってはいますけれども。

回答ありがとうございます。go off を知らなかったのもあって倒置が見抜けなかったですね！たしかに、会話だとほとんどlikeしか聞かないのでasを見ると？？となってしまいます。

(someないと変な感じです！） I have as many books as you (have.)の (have)の部分。たぶん省略してもいいということなら (do)にすべきだと思うのですが、 だって別のページで、こっちは省略したらダメというやつだと思うので I like him as much as you do. になっていると思うのですが、(have)にしたら I have as many books as you have. か？と自分は今 考えています。 I have as many books as you do. やったと思っているのであってますか？ なんか書き方があやふやでよくわからんまま勉強しそうで教えて欲しいです。よろしくお願いします
