すみません、寝る間際だったのであまり前後を見ず、直観的に回答してしまいました。 anyone outside of a story-book は「おとぎ話の外にいるどんな人でも」の意味です。 「めでたし、めでたし」のような幸せな暮らしはおとぎ話の中だけの世界なのですが、田舎暮らしをすることで、おとぎ話の外でも同じような幸せな暮らしが保証される。 any-, can ever から、おとぎ話の外で、考えられ得る、可能な、最大限の、という意味合いが加味されます。 anyone だけ訳すと「誰でも」という感じですが、「誰だって」というのでなく、「誰と比べてみても」ということで、最大限、あるいは「とても」という意味の強調表現となります。

こんにちは、 今回は、Louis Sacharの『HOLES』からです。 chapter38の中の以下の文に関してです。 "He wiped the dirt off of it and realized it was an onion." において"off of"となる理由はなんでしょうか？(以前にもoff ofに関して質問させていただきましたが・・・) 「wipe」を辞書でひいてみると"を[～から]ふき取る [from, off]" とあるので、 "wiped the dirt off it" で「それから泥をふき取った」で意味が通用し、"of"は必要ないのではないかと思うのですが、いかがでしょうか？ 参考までに、上記の文の直前の分を以下に示します。 "As he continued to widen his hole, his hand came across a smooth, round object. It was tooo smooth and to round to be a rock." です。よろしくお願いします。

(1)be sure ofは「主語が～を確信している」 He is sure of making it. = He is sure that he will make it. (=主語自身が、成功すると確信している) (2)be sure to 「主語が必ず～する」と話し手が確信している。 He is sure to make it.=I'm sure that he will make it. (彼は必ず成功する)と話し手である私が確信している。 という違いがあると教わりました。 (3)be proud of 動名詞 (4)be proud to 不定詞 (3)と(4)にも何か同じような違いがあるのでしょうか？ 連続の投稿で失礼致しますm(_ _)m 通ってる学校の英語の先生では解決に至りませんでした。

二度のご回答ありがとうございます。 なるほど。 「おとぎ話を外から見ている人間なら誰でも（おとぎ話の登場人物のハッピーエンドを）確信することができる」→つまり誰が見てもそうなると確信する→一般に考えうる最高レベル という解釈でよろしいでしょうか？ “ever”がすごく気になるのですが、これはas asと絡むのでしょうか？
