この文のwhat節が解析できません 「何らかの事情でメガネなしの生活を強いられると、メガネの有り難みを改めて認識する。」 When you have to do without glasses for some reason or other,you realize again what a blessing they are. という文ですが、このwhat節ですがblessingがわかりません。 whatが先行詞を含んだ関係代名詞だとすれば、blessingが名詞でも形容詞でも、they are blessingという文が成立していてwhatが入る余地がありません。 あるいは、whatで導かれる感嘆文は名詞節になることが出来るのでしょうか？ もしもそうだとしても、この文では”what+a+形容詞+名詞+主語+動詞”という文が成立していません。具体的に言うと、この文ではblessingが名詞だとすれば形容詞がないですし、blessingが形容詞だとすれば名詞が不足していることになります。 おそらく私の解析に不備があるのだと思います。 お分かりになる方がいらっしゃったら、教えてください。

２文あるのですが、 １.World leaders are once again set to discuss global warming. →世界の各国首脳は再び地球温暖化の討論を始めようとしている。 とあるのですが、訳に「始めようとしている」とあるのに、何故are set toなのでしょうか？？ このsetは受動態ですよね？？だとすると意味は着手されているとかに厳密にいうとなると思うのですが、どなたか教えて下さい。 ２．the leading industrialized nation で、「先進工業国」と訳されているのですが、 「the leading（形容詞）」→「 industrialized （過去分詞）」→「nation（名詞）」の語順てありえますか？ というのは、もし、 industrialized を上記の通り過去分詞ととらえるのならば、the leading industrialized、と２語以上の語群がnationを修飾しているので、本来名詞の後ろにくっつけないとだめだと思うのです。だとしたらこの句は分詞ではないのでしょうか。 どのように解釈すればいいのでしょう。 よろしくお願いいたします。

Learning foreign language is difficult.A simple statement,but perhaps it may reassure some of the millions who have failed to master another tongue that they are not subnormal.Perhaps only dieting takes up so much human endeavour with so little to show for it. という文なんですが、構造がつかめない点があります。まず第２文の先頭のA simple statementは何ですか？文の形もありませんし、ただの名詞としてしか捉えられません。仮に前文を受けるとしてthis isを補ったとしたら文となりますが、このthis isを省略できるという文法は習ったこともありません。そんな文法だけに頼ってかたく考えるなと言われそうですが、あくまで受験勉強として 英語を読む以上やはり構文からしっかり把握したいのでお願いします。 また途中の文はいいのですが、最後の文はまったく捉えられません。「ダイエット」が何かの比喩として使われるだろうとは思うのですが、前置詞であるwithの後ろに名詞がきてないこと（littleが名詞なのでしょうか？）や、showの目的語がわからないことなどさっぱりです。 アドバイスよろしくお願いします。

二つよくわからないところがあります。 (1)“What have we done as a nation in the eight years since Columbine about this problem? We compound the trade of the day by our failure to deal with the proliferation of guns in our country,” he said. この文で、as a nationのa nationは国家としてという意味でしょうか？また、We compound the trade of the dayがまったくイメージできません。自分の訳では 「銃規制の問題について、Columbineの事件から８年間、国家として我々は何をしてきたのか？我々の国で銃が激増することに対処しなかったことで、We compound the trade of the day」となると思います。compoundが現在形になっており、まったく意味がとれません。compoundは結合するとかそんな意味ですよね。the trade of the dayがなぜここに出てくるのでしょうか・・。 (2)Wen also stressed the importance of strong economic relations between the countries, courting business leaders and commitment to an annual meeting on the economy between Chinese and Japanese ministers. 中国の首相が訪日したことについての記事なのですが、この文の、courting business leadersというのがわかりません。 「Wen首相も日中間の経済関係を強めることの重要性を強調し、courting business leadersを強調？(の重要性を強調？)、そして中国、日本の大臣との間で経済問題について年次会議を開く約束を強調した。」 stress the importance of A,B and Cになっているのか、stress the importance of A/ (stress)B and (stress)Cになるのかもよくわかりません。 周りに聞ける人(というか説明できる人)がいないので、いつもここに聞くことになってしまいますが、どうか宜しくお願いします。

The predictable movements of the sun was probably one reason why the Egyptians believed that the universe was ordered. という文章があるのですが、この文章を 太陽の動きが予想できたということは、おそらくエジプト人は宇宙が定められているということを信じていた一つの理由であろう。 orderが定めるであっているのか微妙ですが。 ききたいのは、The predictable movements of the sun の部分です。 形容詞が名詞を修飾すると言うことは、主語→述語の関係があると習いました。したがってmovements （主語）→predictable （述語）という関係があるので、「動きが予想できること」と訳してみたのですがこういう訳し方はいいのでしょうか？解説おねがいします。

補足に対する説明(画像)本当に心からおわびしてありがとうございます。やっと意味が理解できました。やはりそのまま訳すということはしないほうがいいですね。かなり難しいところでもありますが、がんばっていきます。

どうも参考文献とヒントともにありがとうございます。 そうすると、分離主義者の動きは国民の誠実に対する脅かしという意味でしょうか？
