５月の恋愛

英語圏での恋愛にとって５月という月は何か特別な意味があるのでしょうか。 　まずローラ・ニーロの作曲でWedding Bell Bluesの歌詞です。 I look at you and see the passion eyes of May 「５月の情熱的な瞳」ですが、なぜ５月なのでしょうか。 もう一つはジャズのナンバーでMy Romanceの歌詞です。 No month of may, no twinkling stars No hide away, no softly guitars 「私のロマンスには５月もきらめく星も秘密の部屋もギターの調べも何もいらない」 どうして５月なのでしょうか。 よろしくお願いします。

あくまでも想像なのですが… まず５月といえば Rose of May.　５月はバラが美しい季節、そして バラは愛を象徴する花。 もうひとつは６月がJune Bride、結婚の季節であり、その前段階として 恋愛が一番盛り上がる頃（５月）という比喩。 想像ですのでアテにはなりませんが＾＾

５月が特別な意味を持った月だという話は聞いたことがありませんが、英米では一番いい季節だとされてはいますよね。気候はいいし、花々が咲き、木々は青く、これぞ春、という感じです。そして、英語は英米から発しています。 で、そういうのも踏まえたうえで、この２つの歌詞では、dayやawayと韻を踏ませるためにMayを持ってきたのだと思います。韻を踏ませることは、英語の歌詞において非常に大事なので。まあ、もちろん「try to remember / the kind of September」みたいに、どんな月を持ってきても、対となる単語を替えれば韻を踏めるわけですが。 ５月の恋、９月の恋、８月の恋、それぞれの月に、それぞれのイメージがあるものなんじゃないでしょうか。日本にも五月さんなんてお嬢さんが大勢いますしね。
