Let α_1,α_2,…,α_n be distinct numbers, ≠0. Show that the functions e^(α_1t),e^(α_2t),…,e^(α_nt) are lineraly independent over the complex numbers. [Hint: Suppose we have a linear relation c_1e^(α_1t)+c_2e^(α_2t)+…+c_ne^(α_nt)=0 with constants c_i,valid for all t. If not all c_i are 0,without loss of generality,we may assume that none of them is 0.Differentiate the above relation n-1 times. You get a system of linear equations. The determinant of its coefficients must be zero.(Why?) Get a contradiction from this.]

A map α : I → R^3 is called a curve of class C^k if each of the coordinate functions in the expression α(t) = (x(t),y(t),z(t)) has continuous derivatives up to order k. If α is merely contiuous, we say that α is of class C^k. A curve α is called simple if the map α is one-to-one. Let α : I → R^3 be a simple curve of class C^2. We say that α has a weak tangent at t = t。∈ I if the line determined by α(t。+ h) and α(t。) has a limit position when h → 0. We say that α has a strong tangent at t = t。 if the line determined by α(t。 + h) and α(t。+ k) has a limit position when h,k → 0. Show that a. α(t) = (t^3,t^2), t ∈ R, has a weak tangent but not a strong tangent at t = 0. b. If α : I → R^3 is of class C^1 and regular at t = t。, then it has a strong tangent at t = t。. c. The curve given by α(t) = (t^2,t^2) (t≧0) α(t) = (t^2,-t^2) (t≦0) is of class C^1 but not of class C^2. Draw a sketch of the curve and its tangent vectors.

1. Suppose A is positive definite and symmetric. Prove that all the eigenvalues of A are positive. What can you say of these eigenvalues if A is a positive semidefinite matrix? 2. Prove that the sum of two symmetric positive definite matrices A, B ∈ Rd×d is positive definite. 3. Prove that if A is symmetric positive definite, then det A > 0 and thus A is invertible. On the contrary, show that if det A > 0, then A is not necessarily positive definite (you just need to provide a counterexample). 4. Prove that if A is positive semidefinite and λ > 0, then (A + λI) is positive definite. 5. Prove that if X ∈ Rd×n then XXT and XT X are both positive semidefinite. 6. Prove that if X ∈ Rd×n has rank d, then XXT is positive definite (invertible). 7. Let X ∈ Rd×n be a matrix, and Y ∈ Rn. Prove that minα∈Rd∥XTα-Y∥2 +λ∥α∥2 is attained for α = (XXT + λI)-1XY .

- a0,a1,…,an:affinely independent⇔(a1-a0),(a2-a0),…,(an-a0):linearly independentの証
a0,a1,…,an∈R^nに於いて 「a0,a1,…,an:affinely independent⇔(a1-a0),(a2-a0),…,(an-a0):linearly independent」 を証明しています。 a0,a1,…,an:affinely independent の定義は (i) Σ[i=0..n]αiai=0 且つ (ii) Σ[i=0..n]αi=0 ⇒ α0=α1=…=αn=0 (但し、α0,α1,…,αn∈R) (a1-a0),(a2-a0),…,(an-a0):linearly independent の定義は Σ[i=1..n]αi(ai-a0)=0⇒α1=…=αn=0 です。

let p ≧ 1 be a prime and let a be a positive integer not divisible by p. (a) Given any integer b in the set {1 , ...... , p-1}, explain why you know there is some x ∈ {1, .... , p-1} such that ax ≡ b (mod p). (b) for a fixed b, is the x from question (a) unique? Prove that you are correct. (c) show that the set {a, 2a, ....(p-1)a} is a complete system that you are correct. (d) show that a^(p-1) * (p-1)! ≡ (p-1)! (mod p) (e) show that a^(p-1) ≡ 1 (mod p) フェルマーの小定理の証明過程なんですが、小問(a)から敷居が高くてよくわかりません。

- "into m and along n"と"onto n along m"の意味は?
[Q]Projections:Given L(V).V=m(+)n. E is a projection into m and along n.And F is a projection onto n along m. Show that E,F are linear transformations. 今回の場合VからVへの線形写像) a projection into m and along n と a projection onto n along m.
