長年英語を勉強してしますが、まだまだわからないことだらけなので、みなさんのお力を貸して頂けないでしょうか。よろしくお願い致します。 以下の問題は、ある大学の過去問からです。 ( )内の語（句）のうちひとつが誤りです。その誤った語（句）と正しい語（句）を示す解答をAからDのうちから選びなさい。 A（Those） who seem most unhappy, B(yet) successful they may be, are the ones C(for) whom a job is D(only) a way of making money. A Those-These B yet-however C for-of D only-alone 正解は B yet-however です。消去法明らかに正しいと思ったA,C,Dを消して、Bが残ったのですが、B自体、なぜ誤りなのかがわからず困っています。Bはどちらが入ってもよさそうに思えてしまうのですが。。。 どなたか、簡潔にすっきりとした解答を下さると幸いです。お願い致します。

この場合のhoweverは「しかしながら」ではなく「どんなに～しても」（譲歩）の意味になります。 yetも「しかし」という意味はありますが、譲歩節を取ることはできません。そのような意味はないのです。 この節の訳は、「どんなに彼らが成功しても」になります。このhoweverはその直後に形容詞や副詞がきたり、mayを用いることが多かったりするので識別しやすかと思います。

(A) has been (B) had been (C) is (D) be の____に入る適切な句を答えなさい。 という問題で、 「彼はこの会社にたった二週間しかいないが、本当に事情に通じている」 ☆in this company for two weeks （二週間在職している）という部分は「過去から現在迄の継続」を表しているので現在完了系を選択。 と回答に書いてあったのですが、どうしてin this company for two weeksが「過去から現在までの継続」なのか分かりません。 「彼はこの会社にたった二週間しかいなかったが、本当に事情に通じている」 として (B)を選ぶことは出来ないのでしょうか。
