英文を自然な日本語に和訳する方法
- 簡単な文構造の英文ならすぐに日本語に和訳できるのですが、少し複雑な英文だと問題が生じます。
- 英語のままでは理解できますが、自然な日本語に訳すことができません。

簡単な文構造の英文ならすぐに日本語に和訳できるのですが少し複雑な英文だと和訳する問題でうまく自然な日本語に訳せません 英語のままなら理解できるのですが普段から英語のままで理解してるのでうまくできません どなたか下の英文を例として用いて自然な日本語に和訳する方法を教えていただけないでしょうか? It would seem that bright German or French people who have good English as well as their own language are really far better off and that the British, at any rate, are starting to realize. As I sit in front of my radio listening to music that is being broadcast from far distant station, I cannot help thinking of instuments called transmitters which make the waves that travel through space at a wonderful speed and bring voices of far away musicians to my ears.

自然な日本語にする方法を探っておられるからには、大学受験目的ではないと解釈して回答します。 簡単に言うと、原文の意味を把握したうえで、いったん、原文から離れて、その状況を日本語で再現することで、自然な和訳にできます。 例えば、ご質問文の原文に関して言えば、まず英語として怪しい（have good Englishなど）ので、書き手のクセを把握する必要があります。つまり、ここに書かれていない部分を何度も読んで、「こういうことを言いたいとき、この人はこう書く」というクセを掴むことで、書き手の言わんとしていることを把握します。でなければ、文全体を読み込むことで"降りてくる"（←霊能者のように）文意を掴みとるんですね。 プロの現場では、背景を調査することに重きを置くことも少なくありません。例えば、この原文だけではわかりませんが、仮にこれが誰かの伝記だとしたら、その人の人生や時代背景について時間をかけて調べます。すると、その時代のどんな事実について述べているかがわかってきて、意味を掴みやすくなるのです。 そうやって意味がわかったら、自分をその世界観に浸らせます。例えば仮に、この原文の前半が、「明るいドイツ人で英語が堪能な人の方が得である」と言っているとわかったとします。では仮に自分がそのような考え方をしているとして、それを日本語でエッセーか何かに書くとしたら、どう書くか。そのように考えます。 この過程がわりと厄介で、人によっては飼い猫を撫でに行ってみたり、トイレに立ってみたり、家事を片づけてみたりしながら、原文から離れるようにとことん頑張ります。そのうえで、イタコになった自分からどんな日本語が現れるか・・・ 「バイリンガルで頭のいいドイツ人の方が得だったりします」 という具合になります。もちろん、これを文脈に合った文体に微調整するわけですが。

No3の方とほぼ同意見です。 英語による生活力があっても、その分野での知識が無ければ、自然な翻訳はできません。 極端な例ですが、電子工学の知識がある、英語の堪能な人でも、医学の文書の翻訳には不自然さが残ります。 その逆もまた真なりです。 広範囲な翻訳を望むのであれば、広範囲な日本語の分野に興味をもってたくさんの本を読むのがいいと思います。 文学の範囲であれば、文学をターゲットにして読めばいいと思います。 その方面を知らないと 意訳は出来ないのは質問者さんもお気付きではないでしょうか。

No. 2 です。第１文に訂正です。【 】を訂正します。 自国語のみならず英語も得意な【頭の良い】ドイツ人やフランス人の方が断然暮らし向きが良さそうです、そして、そのことに少なくともイギリス人【も→は】気付き始めています。 ＜一言＞ 質問者さんが、日本語の方が苦手な帰国子女等ではなく、日本語が母国語で英語を学習されている方でしたら、翻訳者の様なこなれた日本語とは行かなくても、英語で理解できていて、母国語の日本語で他人が聞いたり読んだりして理解できない訳文にしか翻訳できないことはあり得ないと思います。

直訳にこだわると無理です。一語vs.一語の対応を維持して翻訳しようとすると不自然な日本語になります。 意訳するにしても、論理関係は維持したまま、一番意図するところをあらわすのに適した日本語をいかに豊富にもっているか、という日本語記述力が、英日翻訳に必要なのです。 帰国子女が和訳ができないのは、これが大きな理由です。 ご質問の程度の文章ならば、自然な日本語にするまでもない単純な内容ですから、「日本の学校における英語教育」でのテストに回答をするときには、語の対応がわかるように不自然さが若干残るような訳し方をしたほうが、「日本の学校における英語教育」の内容を会得しているとアピールしやすいでしょうね。

自国語のみならず英語も得意なドイツ人やフランス人の方が断然暮らし向きが良さそうです、そして、そのことに少なくともイギリス人も気付き始めています。 ラジオの前に座って遠くの局から放送されてくる音楽に耳を傾けていると、すごい速さで空中を伝わる電波を作り出し、遠くのミュージシャンの声を私の耳に届けてくれるトランスミッター（送信器）という機材のことを私はどうしても考えてしまいます。
