このfive times （5倍）みたいな使い方のtimeはリーダーズでは[pl, <prep>]と表示されています。表示の意味はちょっと解らないですが、英語としても特殊な使い方で、five timesを句前置詞とする解釈もある、といったところでしょう。いずれにせよit projected earlier以下はthe deficitを修飾する関係代名詞句（目的格関係代名詞thatは省略、itはMazda)で、そう予想されたdeficitの「5倍」というのがfive timesにあたります。 five times the deficitは英語として正しいですがdeficiｔの意味が特定されている必要があります（例文では関係詞により特定されています）。twice my incomeなら意味も明らかなので次の文は普通です（この場合three timesは前置詞句とはいえませんが、こんな感じでも使えます）。 My wife earns three times my income.

前の a 100 billion loss と同格，と申し上げましたが， こういう X times the 名詞というのは，名詞句ではありません。 be 動詞の後にくるか，前の名詞を修飾するような，どちらかというと形容詞的なものです。 だから，ここでも，正確には a loss という名詞を説明している感じです。 which is を補うこともできると思います。 だから，twice the size of ～であれば，「～の2倍の大きさ」の とさらに，形容詞的に「の」となって前の名詞にかかる。 このパターンは学生時代に X times as large as ～との書き換えで覚えたままで， なんとなく長文中で出てきた記憶はありました。 ただ，the size of ～というパターンとなるものだと思っていましたが， the size などの後に，関係代名詞や分詞がくることがこの英文からわかります。 five times the dificit (which) SV であれば， 「S が V する損失の５倍」の 損失，と a loss にかかっていきます。 ただ，英語的には前から流れていくので， 1000億円の損失，（すなわち）見積もった損失の５倍以上，そして～ という感じになります。
