"The finished man" "eat of every apple once"とは？(格言)
英語の格言集の中に、Ralph Waldo Emersonという人の"The finished man of the world must eat of every apple once."という格言が載っているのですが、解釈が分からず困っています。 こちらの解釈をお教えいただけると大変有り難いです。 <experience>のジャンルに載っているものなので、appleが経験という意味だと思うのですが、他の意味で使われているのでしょうか？ ご回答どうぞよろしくお願いいたします。

この格言が含まれる原文はこちらです。 http://www.answers.com/topic/the-conduct-of-life-culture 下から6番目の段落、We wish to learn philosophy by roteで始まる段落にこの言葉が出てますね。 この段落を全部読むと少しはこの格言の内容が理解しやすくなるでしょうか。 でこの文ですが、まずman of the world はこのような意味ですが http://www2.alc.co.jp/ejr/index.php?word_in=person+of+the+world&word_in2=%82%A9%82%AB%82%AD%82%AF%82%B1&word_in3=PVawEWi72JXCKoa0Je ここではどの意味が適当か難しいですが、「世事に通じた人」くらいにしておきますか。finished がついてますので、十二分に世事に通じた人、ということで。 でappleですが、リンゴで私が思い浮かんだのはエデンの園の禁断の木の実です。食べてはいけないというのに誘惑に負けてアダムとイブが食べてしまったリンゴですね。 もしかしたらここでもそういった「誘惑」のような意味で使われているのかなと思いました。 eat of で「～の一部を食べる」ですので、「十二分に世事に通じた人というのは一度はあらゆるリンゴをちょっとは食べてみなくてはならない」つまり、いろんな誘惑でも世間勉強のために少しだけ経験しておいた方がいい、ということでしょうか。 この文の前には貧困でも恥辱でも、何でも経験しておけ、みたいなことを書いてますのでね。 これはあくまでも私の勝手な解釈ですので、あまり参考にもならないかもしれませんが、回答がまだついてないようので書いてみました。失礼いたしました！

"He builded better than he knew; The conscious stone to beauty grew." ちなみに当方の訳は ”彼は知り得た以上のものを作り上げた。 美に対して理性的な石が成長した。” 作者はRalph Waldo Emersonです。当方の訳では意味が通じません。stoneに何か意味があるのかもしれません。

本に次の英文がありました。 Not only do women excel in education, with three women graduating for every two man, but also often show more aptitude for the kinds of work becoming more common today. 訳は 女性は大卒率が男性２人に対して女性３人と教育面で優れているだけでなく、今日ますます一般的になりつつある職種に対する適正を男性よりも示すことが多い とありました。 疑問点は ・do women excelの解釈の仕方 → これは、SVOCのように women を excel に do するととれば、良いのでしょうか？ ・with three women graduating for every two manのとり方 → カンマ内は、前半のwomenを説明する挿入句であることは、わかっていますが、”大卒の女性 for ”every 二人の男” というfor の意味合いが ”～対して”という意味でとれる理由とここでの every の 役割がわかりません。 これらの解釈の仕方を教えて欲しいです。 よろしくお願いします。
