TOEICの試験問題を見るたびにed ingで迷います。判断の仕方を教えてもらえませんでしょうか？ 1 The ____ market has decline in many parts of the country. A housed B housing 2 Rapidly___ oil pricies caused OPEC ministers to meet and plan a strategy. A fallen B falling 3 Mr Dalla would like the invoices ____ directly to Milan. A faxing B faxed どれもBが正解なのですが、理由がよくわかりません。２問目はオイルの価格が落ちられるではなく落ちるからing形なのでしょうか？３問目はファックスがインボイスされるという受身だからBなのでしょうか？ いつも間違えてしまいます。よろしくお願いします

お判りとは思いますが、この“-ed”は過去形ではなく過去分詞です。 そして、とにかく頭に置かなければならないのは、過去分詞は基本的に「受動態の意味を持つ」ということです。「受動態」というとbe動詞+過去分詞だと思うかも知れませんが、これは文を作るときの形であって、be動詞がなくとも過去分詞そのものが受身の意味を持つ、と肝に銘じて下さい。 ここまではお判りのようなのですよね。なのになぜこういう疑問が出るか。或る意味、特に２, ３問目についての質問を拝見するに、日本語が正確でない・英単語の意味を正確に理解していらっしゃらない、のではないかと思いますが……。 1. “house”という単語の意味は「～に住居｛じゅうきょ｝を与える、家をあてがう」です。“housing market”は「住居を供給する市場」＝「住宅市場」となります。これがもし“housed market”だったら、受身ですから「住居を供給される市場」です。強いて言えば、例えば「倉庫か何かの中に入れて貰っている青果市場」みたいな意味になってしまいますね（実際には『倉庫に』等の修飾語がつかないと意味不明の句ですが）。後の文が“has declined in many parts of the country.”（“has decline”とお書きでしたが“declined”の筈ですね）なのですから、これはもう住宅を供給「する」市場しかあり得ません。 2. “fall”の意味は「落ちる」です。「落とす」という他動詞の意味はありません。ですから“fallen”で「落とされる」という受身にもなりません。“prices”（物価）は「落ちる」「下落する」のです。ですから答えはBしかあり得ません。 >>オイルの価格が落ちられるではなく落ちるから 「落ちられる」という日本語が存在しますか？ 正しい日本語として、私は見たことも聞いたこともありません。 3. 言い方が変ですが、“invoices”の立場になってみましょう。invoicesは人の手によって「FAXで送られる」のです。invoicesが自らFAXを送る訳ではありません（何せ書類ですから）。答えはBしかあり得ません。 >>ファックスがインボイスされるという受身だからBなのでしょうか？ そもそもこの辺が勘違いのようですね。“invoice”は「送り状」「請求書」という意味ですよ。動詞なのは“fax”のほうで、「～をファックスで送る」という意味です。

～ingには文法的にみると分詞と動名詞、進行形がありますが、 １の問題のhousingは識別すれば、動名詞になるのではないかと思います。分詞であれば、修飾される名詞と（ここではmarket)とhousingの関係が主語と動詞にならなくてはなりません。 つまり、the market housesが意味的に成立しなくてはならないということです。「市場が家を与える」というのは変な気がしませんか。 housingは名詞と考えていいと思います。意味は「住居」になります。 ほかにもfitting room(試着室）などが文法的に同じ単語になるのではないかと思いますが、どうでしょうか。 この～ingが文法的に何にあたるのかよく分かりません。自分だったらやはりhousing marketで１つの単語として覚えてしまうと思います。 私も勉強になりました。

3 については下線部に入る動詞 (分詞) の意味上の主語が invoice になるはず. だから faxing を入れると「invoice が fax で (何かを) 送る」, faxed だと「(誰かが) invoice を fax で送る」の意味になり, どっちがありそうかという判断になるんじゃないかな.

ありがとうございます。ing だったらinvoice→FAXを送る ed だったらFAX→invoiceで送られるになり、かかる順番が逆になるという意味なのですかね？
＞1 The ____ market has decline in many parts of the country. the housing marketで一続きで、「住宅市場（しじょう）」という意味なんだと思いますよ（アルクのトップページの英辞郎on the Webhttp://www.alc.co.jp/index.htmlにも出ていました） The housing market / has declined / in many parts of the country. ＞2 Rapidly___ oil pricies caused OPEC ministers to meet and plan a strategy. これもfalling pricesで「物価下落」 falling oil priciesであれば和訳は「石油価格の下落」とかいう風になっていませんか。 Rapidly falling oil pricies で「急激な石油価格の下落」 Rapidly falling oil pricies / caused / OPEC ministers / to meet and plan a strategy. こんな区切り方でいいのかわかりませんが・・・。 要するに、バラバラでなくつながっていて、カタマリ１つで名詞の働きをしていて、それが主語になっているのでしょう。 「The housing marketは」とか、「Rapidly falling oil priciesが」とか。 私は理屈でなくて「こういう言い方」と思ってなんとなくで覚えてしまっているので文法的に説明できないのですが、参考URLのようなこと？？ ３番はよく分かりません。
