He had a nerve for asking me to marry him. He is on a cost-cutting diet. He doesn't waste money. He tightens the purse strings and cut waste. Possibly you're right, but I think differently.

- want to have toの日本語訳について
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire [UK,adult版] p.751真ん中あたりの文についてです。 Harry nodded. A kind of numbness and a sense of complete unreality were upon him, but he did not care; he was even glad of it. He didn't want to have to think about anything that had happened since he had first touched the Triwizard Cup. ここで "He didn't want to have to think about anything that had happened since he had first touched the Triwizard Cup." となっているのですが、なぜ「didn't want to have to think about 」が「について何も考えたくなかった」となるのでしょうか? 「didn't want to think about 」との違いを教えていただけないでしょうか?

- used to do me kindnesses
He used to do me -------- when I had trouble in the previous company. (a) many kindnesses (b) a kindness このような文法問題があり、正解は a なのですが、理由がわかりません。 I used to go to a baseball game. I used to go to many baseball games.

I love my husband, but I don't like him anymore. He is disrespectful to me because I am overweight, and he has been after me for years to lose the extra pounds. He uses filthy language when he speaks to me and says it's OK because I am disrespecting him by not losing weight. I'm 58 years old, have back problems, wear a size 8 and could stand to lose a good 15 pounds. stand toはどのような意味でしょうか?

- had toとshould haveの違いは?
"Why did you leave without me? You ( ) for me." 正解は"should have wait"で、私は"had to wait"を選び不正解でした。
