セリフ　「I can't stand who they are」

ドラマのセリフです。 「誰がどう思ってもかまわないわ。だって、他人のことなんてどうでもいいんだから。」という意味で以下のセリフが使われています。 「I do not care about what they think because I can't stand who they are.」 「I can't stand who they are」の意味がすっきりしません。standには我慢するという意味もあるようですが、どうも訳にあわない感じがするのです。最初のセンテンスで、気にしないといってるのに、次のセンテンスで我慢出来ないといっているのはおかしいと思ったからです。 「I can't stand who they are」で「他人のことはどうでもよい」という雰囲気が伝わる定型表現でしょうか。

I do not care about what they think because I can't stand who they are. >最初のセンテンスで、気にしないといってるのに、次のセンテンスで我慢出来ないといっているのはおかしい 「彼らが『何を考えているか』については気にしないよ。彼らが『何者であるか』に我慢できないのだから」の意味だね。たとえば、「彼らが黒人だからとにかく嫌だ」「ユダヤ人だから」「マイクロソフトの社員だから」みたいな趣旨じゃないかな。who they areは、たまーに「正体」とかのニュアンスでも使われるらしいから、そっちの意味かもしれんけどね。 あ、ちなみに「他人のことはどうでもよい」は確かに意訳しすぎかもね。まあ、気にするな。

とにかくその人たちの存在自体が我慢出来ないのだから、その人たちがなにを考えているかなんて私にはどうでもいいのよ。 くらいの雰囲気でしょうか。「何者であるか」に我慢出来ない人が、「その人たちがなにを考えているか」を気にするわけがありませんよね。ニュアンスがよくわかりました。

そうですね。Ｎｏ．１さんのおっしゃる通りだと思います。 ~cannot stand with~ は、普段でも会話の中で良く使われますので、覚えておくと便利だと思います。

日本語訳がかなり穿ったものになっているのだと思います。 can't stand --- は質問者の言われているとおり、耐えられない、我慢できないという意味が普通です。つまりここでは （人間性が）我慢ならないやつら→嫌いなやつら→どうでも良いやつら　となるのでしょう。 because i can't stand who they are after all. というように考えればわかりやすいかもしれません。 ところで、たしかこれは常軌を逸したキャサリンターナーの台詞だったような...
