やっぱりジョークの和訳は日本語センスを問われる！？
I was suspended once because a teacher pointed a ruler at me and said "at the end of this ruler is an idiot" And I said "which end?"（作者不詳） というジョークがあります。 個人的にはすごいツボったのですが、私の文章力では日本語に訳しても全然面白くないのです。 拙訳：俺は一度停学になった事がある。先生が定規を俺に指して「この定規の先に愚か者がおる。」と言うから「どっち側の先ですか？」って言ったんだ。 まあ、お分かりとは思いますが、定規の両端に先があり、自分を指してる方じゃなくて、先生が先生自身を指してる方を意図して言って怒られたというしょうもない笑い話なのですが、、、"which end?"の訳が良くないのですかねえ？？ 日本語でも面白い翻訳例を読んでスッキリとしたく思っています、自分の翻訳では残尿感しか残らないので、英語カテの住人の方々の翻訳例をおしえていただければと思います。 現在けっこう忙しくて、大したお礼コメントもできませんが、よろしくお願い致します。

I was suspended once because a teacher pointed a ruler at me and said "at the end of this ruler is an idiot" And I said "Yes, I can see him clearly." 俺は一度停学になった事がある。先生が定規を俺に指して「この定規の先に愚か者がおる。」と言うから「本当だ。よく見えます。」って言ったんだ。

ご回答ありがとうございます。 思わず、「プッ」っと笑っちゃいました。 すごく面白いのに不思議な日本語というか、不思議な文章の技術ですね。 定規を僕に向けて言った事への返答という説明個所が全くないのに、なぜか読んでわかり、瞬間的に笑える。 こんな難しいジョークの技術があったのですね！！！

No.3の補足。 落ちの原文はたしか， Which end of the fork do you mean? フォーマルな会話なので，ちゃんとした文で発言していて，それがおかしみを加えています。ぞんざいな Which end? ではちぐはぐになるでしょう。 しかし，私の訳は Which end? と同等です。日本語では瞬発性がないと面白くないからです。

ご回答ありがとうございます。 ああ、なるほど、私の訳には瞬発性が足りなかった事に気が付きました。英語では瞬発性があるのに、日本語訳が「どっち側の先ですか？」では、なんだか英語を無理矢理日本語にしたような不自然な表現だから、瞬時にボケが伝わらないのが問題だったようですね。 もっと瞬発力を目指します！

似たようなアメリカン・ジョーク。 あるパーティで，鼻持ちならない招待客がいた。 その客が料理の肉片をフォークに指し，ホストに尋ねた。 「これは豚（pig）ですか？」 ホストが返して， 「どっちの端のほうですかな？」

先生が、定規を僕に向けて、「この先にバカがいる」と言ったので「あ、そっちですね」と言っただけなのに、謹慎になっちゃった。

ご回答ありがとうございます。 「あ、そっちですね」の方がいいですね。 日本語で、「どっちの先端ですか？」っていうのも何だか不自然でした。
読み手が馬鹿だと決めつけてNHK歌舞伎中継的に字句の意味からギャグの背景から解説しないとすまないのは日本の文芸の悪い癖です。冗談は分かる者と分からないものがあるのが当然で、分かる者が分かるに必要なことだけ書けばそれでいいのです。「皆さん分かりますか？ 訳した僕にはこの面白さが分かっていますよ」と書かなくていいですよ。つまり直訳で沢山です。

簡単な文構造の英文ならすぐに日本語に和訳できるのですが少し複雑な英文だと和訳する問題でうまく自然な日本語に訳せません 英語のままなら理解できるのですが普段から英語のままで理解してるのでうまくできません どなたか下の英文を例として用いて自然な日本語に和訳する方法を教えていただけないでしょうか? It would seem that bright German or French people who have good English as well as their own language are really far better off and that the British, at any rate, are starting to realize. As I sit in front of my radio listening to music that is being broadcast from far distant station, I cannot help thinking of instuments called transmitters which make the waves that travel through space at a wonderful speed and bring voices of far away musicians to my ears.

ご回答ありがとうございます。 流石ですね！ 覚えていらっしゃらないとは思いますが、これまでも何度かジョーク関連の質問をしたことがあり、以前にも面白いご回答をいただいています。 どうにも私には才能がないのか、「本当だ。よく見えます。」という面白い訳が出てきませんでした。 今回は、No5さんの訳も面白くて、優柔不断故にBA選びはもうしばらくお待ちください。 面白い訳、ありがとうございます。
補足
一銭の得にもならないと思いますので、適当ではいいいのだとは思いますが、BA選びには苦労しました。 一度読んだジョークというのは、免疫が付くものですが、この翻訳文に関しては、何度読んでも腹筋崩壊をしましたので、なんか上から目線で申し訳ないですが、というか、私から認められてもいい事ないのですが、BAに選ばせていただきます。
