お世話になっております。 以下についてお教え頂けないでしょうか。 In order to make our company-wide travel policy more consistent, as well as to save our firm money, from the 1st of next month my office will make all flight and car rental reservations on behalf of company employees. (1)more consistentは、その前文、すなわちour company-wide travel policy を後置修飾するのでしょうか？ (2)もしそうでしたら、consistentは後置修飾する と覚えたらよいのでしょうか？ (3)more consistent our company-wide travel policy という文の順番は不正確でしょうか？ ご指導頂ければありがたいです。

問題にしておられるのは In order to make our company-wide travel policy more consistent という部分ですね。 この部分は副詞句の働きをしているように見えます。だから主文は my office will make all flight and car rental reservations on behalf of company employees の部分ですね。前者は、後者の文を述べるための前置きのようなものになっています。 前者、すんわちIn order to make our company-wide travel policy more consistent という部分には make A B (A を B という状態にする) という表現が用いられています。 「わが社が社員に支給する交通費の基準について、より一貫性を持たせるために」 という意味に取れます。 make A B という定番のパターンを用いているだけのことですから、私は 「後置」 というものには当たらないのではないだろうか、と考えます。たしかに B は後ろに置かれてはいますけれど ・・・ それから、上で後者とした部分にも make A B のパターンが使われています。すなわち、 → my office will [make] [all flight and car rental] [reservations] on behalf of company employees で、動詞が make で、その次の [ ] 内が A で、その後ろの [ ] 内を B とすると make A B という形になっています。 「当社の社員による飛行機やレンタル・カーの利用については、これらを予約制にする」 という内容と読めます。

この場合、単純に「make A B」(Bは名詞or形容詞)、すなわち「AをBにする」という構文ですよね。「make」にかかる構文ですから、consistentが後置修飾するかどうか、という事とは全く関係ありません。 敢えて順番を変えるとすると、In order to make more consistency in our company-wide travel policy になるかと思われます。 以上、ご参考まで。

(1)more consistentは、その前文、すなわちour company-wide travel policy を後置修飾するのでしょうか？ 修飾というよりも「出張の原則をさらに一貫性のあるもののする」と趣旨を述べています。 (2)もしそうでしたら、consistentは後置修飾する と覚えたらよいのでしょうか？ 違います。 we make the company-wide travel policy to be more consistent の意味です。 (3)more consistent our company-wide travel policy という文の順番は不正確でしょうか？ 正確でよく使われる極めてありふれた言い方です。
