現在は日本で生活基盤のない日本生まれの人を紹介するときはほとんど、Japanese Bornと付け加えます。あるいはOriginally from Japan (日本出身）と自己紹介でも言いますし。 アメリカでは日本人は2世、3世であってもある意味日本人を意識します。また諸外国の人々も同じです。話がそれますが、このクリスマス時期は特に遠くメイフラワーに乗ってきた欧州からの祖先の話題で食卓が盛り上がる時でもあります。イタリア系、ドイツ系、フランス系など祖国へ旅したことのない子孫達が古き良き時代を懐かしく思うのは人としてホッコリしますね。

Japanese trioとしてしまうと、日本人のトリオということになり、人種を言う表現になります。 Japanese-born trioと言いますと、日本で生まれた人ですから、日本で生まれたが今は国籍が違う人、日本に生まれ今も日本人である人、両者を含むので、この表現が今回のノーベル賞受賞者には妥当ということになります。
