どちらも書き換えOKです。 - It is no use doing - It is no use to do - There is no use (in) doing - It is useless doing - It is useless to do 詳しい辞書には、「書き換え」で上記のように載っています。私が使っているのは研究社のものです。 ちなみに「質問」はguestionでなくてquestionですよ！

参考書に「It is ○○ to～ とIt is ○○ that～ の書き換えができるとできないものがある。 ○○に入る形容詞がnatural important, necessary は書き換え可。 difficult easy hard possible useless は書き換え不可。」とあるのですが、この違いは何でしょうか。 どなたかぜひ教えてください。

- この英文は「彼を説得しようとしてみても無駄だ」？
It is no use trying to persuade him. です。 try to で「しようとする」、 persuade には「説得に成功した」という意味が含まれるようです。（日本語の「説得する」には含まれませんが） なので 「彼を説得したとしても（何の力にもならないので）無駄だ」かと思いました。 しかし、先生は 「彼を説得しようとしてみても（頑固なので決して納得せず徒労になるので時間の）無駄だ」 という風にとらえてました。 try to の対象が 「説得することの行為」か 「説得に成功すること」のどちらを無駄と言ってるか、が違いの原因かなーと思います。 解答をよろしくお願いします。

覆水盆にかへらず、は IT IS NO USE CRYING OVER SPILT MILK. となりますが、ことわざ以外では IT IS OF NO USE TO ME.などのように、NO USEの前にOFをつけて形容詞化したと考えます。 この違いは何ですか？OFはあってもなくてもよくて、 IT IS NO USE TO ME. でも○なのでしょうか？ 教えてください。

He had the nerve to ask me to marry him. この文を He had a nerve asking me to marry him. に言い換 えできますか。 お金を無駄遣いしないようにしている人をこんなふうに言い表せま すか。 He is on a cost-cutting diet. Possibly you're right, but I think differently. これはある辞書にあった文です。 differently の代わりに otherwise はいかがでしょうか。 よろしくお願いします。
