マーケティングの潮流が変化し、食品会社がターゲット層を高齢者に絞った商品開発を行い始めたというのが全体の意味合いですが、その締めくくりに、「The advertising campaign focused on happy consumers - mostly over 50 - attesting to their lower cholesterol levels.」 があって、訳すると 「広告キャンペーンの主題は、満足している消費者で（主に50歳以上の）彼らが、コレステロールレベルが下がったことを次々と証言している。」 となりますね。

http://senrs.com/over_60_and_overlooked.htm いろいろな雑誌記事などを収録している「SUSA, OOMO & THC」というというサイトで、質問400003と386443で取り上げられている文章の出典であると思われる雑誌記事（The Economistというイギリスの経済紙らしい）の全文を読むことができます。 これをざっと読むと、中高年層をターゲットにした製品開発とその製品を販売する際のマーケテイングの仕方（主に広告で使われるイメージの重要性）について書かれています。 "A Marketing Challenge"という項の9段落目に、他の質問で問題になった"happy cosumers"という箇所があります。 この解釈については質問386443で揉めたのですが、第7段落にある「The most successful advertising campaigns targeted at mature consumers focus instead on active and healthy lifestyles and introduce positive role models. 」の文意を汲み、「幸せな生活をおくっている消費者をキャンペーンで重要視し、その際に押し出したのはこの製品を使うことでコレステロール値が下がると製品の特徴である。」（すごい意訳）になるのではないかと思います。 英語で読むと、「 happy cosumers」（マーケテイングのテーマ）に「attesting to their cholesterol levels.」を「focus」するという意味になるように思います。 ここで私と他の方の解釈が違うのは、この「 happy cosumers」が「the happy cosumers」ではないので、「attesting to their cholesterol levels.」をしているのは「 happy cosumers」でないと考えたところだと思います。 ここで「the」があるかないかで、文意が変わるのではないかと思いますが、皆さまは「the」の有無で文意が変わると思われますか？
