翻訳お願いします
100年くらい前に書かれたイギリスの小説の中の一文です。 The boy did not move, but stayed regarding her awkwardly. 少年と少女が夜にお別れをするシーンです。少女は別れのキスをしても良いと言いますが、少年はそうしないでstayed regarding her します。このstayed regardingとは一体何でしょうか？？？

regardingは、～に関して awkwardlyは、ぎこちなく となっています。 これで行くと 少年は動きませんでした。しかし彼女に関してぎこちなく滞在しました。 となります。 しかしこれらの単語には別の意味があるかもしれないので、こうであるとは自信を持ってはいえません。文章が少しおかしいですし。

補足
質問をしている私が答えるのもおかしいですが、辞書には挨拶の意味もある用例も出ています。その辺りではないかとは思っています。分かる方の回答をお願いします。。。。

こんな冒険ファンタジー小説を教えてください！ (1)主人公が少年or少女 (2)なんらかの運命のため世界に旅に出る。 (3)森の中を進んでいくシーンがある。 (4)魔法が出てくる。 (5)ヨーロッパ系の感じで外国のお話。できれば イギリスのものでお願いします。 （日本の作家さんのはちょっと合わないです） (6)短編過ぎず長編すぎない。（６巻ものぐらいまでで） あと図書館にありそうなもので。。。 条件ありすぎですみません。 ずっとこんな感じのものの作品を求めているのですが 中々出会えずにいます(><) 結構王道だと思うんですけどまだ見つけられないんですよ・・・ 本当悲しいです。 *今ベルガリアード物語を読んでいるのですが 少しノリが軽いというか・・・。面白いんですが 求めているのとはちょっと違います。

Once the zoo dentists have treatedthe sea lion, they move on to a much bigger animal-an elephant! Elephants are Dr.Brown's favorite animals, because they have the most interesting teeth. An elephant's tusks are actually teeth and must be treated and checked like them,too.For the dentists, Sue is the perfect patient because she stands quietly while they examine her. She gets an excellent report from the dentis,too. “Perfect!”says Dr.Brown.“Her teeth look wonderful!” So far, the zoo dentists' patients have been great, but not all animals behave so well. The servants who waited upon him had a sad life,for he wept almost without ceasing both day and night. とあります。 the servantsが複数になっていますがhad a sad lifeと単数形になるのはなぜなのでしょうか？ 2） Ｋokiden and the other great ladies were still relentless,and went about saying ”it looked as though the Emperor would be no less foolishly obsessed by her memory than he had been by her person.” 会話文になっているところですが、no less ～thanの構文ではあるのですが、he had been by her personの意味がとれません。ここは全体的にどのように訳したらよいのでしょうか？ 3） He did indeed sometimes see Kokiden's son,the first-born prince.But this only made him long the more to see the lady's child,and he was always sending trusted servants,such as his own old nurse,to report to him upon the boy's progress. ●この文で最初のHeの後にすぐdidが入っていますがなぜでしょうか？ ●またButの後のonlyの後には何か単語が省略されているのでしょうか？ ●the moreとなっていますがmoreにtheがつくこともあるのでしょうか？ 質問が細かくなってしまいましたがよろしくお願いします。

Kate stepped out on the trestle to see if it would hold her. Though she could feel it shake beneath her, it did not go down. Then, the wind blew out her light. The night was black. She began to crawl, feeling ahead of her to see if the bridge was still there. From one board to the next she went cautiously on. Sometimes she would slip and almost fall into the roaring water below. Then she would regain her hold and go on. Kate did not know what time it was. The express would come through at twelve. What if she vas still on the bridge when it came? She would be killed. But there was no way back now. Part of the way across, she saw a big tree rushing down the river. It had been torn out of the ground by the flood, and dirt still hung on its roots. It was approaching fast. It is sure to push the bridge down, she thought. And I can't stop it. Her heart beat quickly. Then the tree passed under the bridge, clearing the trestle by only a foot. Kate kept crawling. Nails and splinters caught at her clothes. Her hands were torn. Thinking of the express and all its passengers, she made one last effort and finally reached the end of the bridge. She stopped only a minute to rest. As soon as she could, she began to run as fast as she could toward the railroad station in town. It was a half mile away.
