Yen rises.....Thursday
The yen climbed to ￥109.81 against the U.S. currency as of 8:13 a.m. in London from 110.04 Wednesday in New York. Londonでは１０９．８１円、New Yorkでは１１０．０４円ということでしょうか。 またclimbed to ￥109.81 from 110.04という（to A from Bのような）構文だとするとちっともclimbed（上昇）していないということになりますし、London とNew Yorkを比較するのも変なのでそういう構造ではないですよね。

ロンドンやニューヨークでも，円・ドルの売買はなされています。 ニューヨーク市場で前日，１ドル＝110円４銭であったのが， 翌日ロンドン市場で，１ドル＝109円81銭に上がった。 １ドル＝110円だと， 1,100円で10ドル， １ドル＝100円だと， 1,100円で11ドル。 したがって， １ドルが 110円から100円になると， 円の価値は同じ1,100円で10ドルから11ドルに上がることになります。 これが円高です。 したがって，110円４銭から109円81銭で円高，すなわち climb「上がる」ということになります。
