直訳→意訳
The important thing was the increase in contact that net use promoted. これで、increase以下の訳がうまくできません。まずthatの先行詞はcontactでいいんですよね？そのつもりで直訳すると、 「in contact/接触の中に」「net use/ネット使用」「promoted/促進した」 「ネット使用が促進した接触の中での増加」となり、チンプンカンプンです。 「（最も重要なことは）ネットを使うことで促進した接触における増加だった」 みたいな感じでしょうか？ 訂正等あればお願いします。

関係代名詞 that の先行詞は一語でいうと，increase の方です。 increase in ～は「～という点における増加」であり，日本語的には「～の増加」といってもいいものです。 the increase in contact で「接触の増加」すなわち，「人と接することや，何かと関係を持つ機会が増加すること」のような意味になります。 これを that net use promoted が修飾し， 「ネット利用が促進した接触の増加」となります。 この日本語でも「ネット利用が促進した」は「接触」にかかっているともとれますが， 内容的には，「接触の」は「増加」にかかり，「～促進した」は「増加」の方にかかります。

海についての長文の中の一節で、 They believed that we must learn these things if we are to help solve the problem of providing food for growing numbers of underfed people in the world.という英文でif ～の文でare to help solveでここは意志で訳せるんですが、解答の訳はもしわれわれが問題を解決する一助となろうとするならと一助？どこからでてきたのかわかりません。ちなみにそのほかの文の意味はわかったのでこの部分の直訳だけ知りたいので、詳しく教えてください。

There has been some research to support the view that the attachment of human babies to their caregivers does indeed go well beyond simply fulfilling biological needs. It has been shown that greater skin-to-skin contact between a mother and her very young infant enhances attachment(Kjaus&Kennell,1976). However, the attachment process develops much more slowly in humans:over the first six month compared with the first few days for monkeys. In addition,only approximately 70% of children appear to be security attachment to an adult at one year old(Sroufe,1985). There are many people, past and present, who would affair criticisms of Harlow`s work based on the ethos of performing such experiments on infant monkeys. The question raised is this :Do we as humans have the right to subject monkeys(or any animal) to potentially harmful situations for the sake of research? In the case of Harlow`s research, there are sensible arguments on both sides. One of the ways science judges the ethics of such research is by examining the potential benefits to people and society. Whether you feel that this study was ethical or not, the finding have affected humans in several positive ways. Some of these relate to issues of institutionalized children,adoption,and child abuse.

To earn many money? Maybe many young students answer YES. It is said that there are many smart people in Japan. I also think so. However, do you think that if a number of smart people increase, which give a chance to develop in Japan? The answer is NO. I think that talent is much more important than studying. Of course, studying is important thing, but looking for your own talent is more important.
