「己の欲せざるところ人に施す勿れ（論語）」にあたる英語には次のようなものがあるとされています。 1. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. 2. Do as you would be done by. 3. Do as you would be done to. 文法的にこの１は理解できるのですが、２のbyと3のtoがこの文のなかでどのような役割をしているのかがわかりません。用いなくてもいいのではないのかな（？）とも思えます。 nativeにも伺ってみました。byやtoは必要だというのですが、それはなぜかと尋ねると、私の英語力の問題もあって要領を得ません。 どなたか教えてください。

こんにちは。 以前、このサイトで２つの意味を持つ助動詞should「～のはず」「すべきだ」に関して 「～のはず」は基本的にbe動詞を後につなげるという風に伺いました。 ■You should go to the park. 聞き手として「公園に行くはずだ」ではなく「公園に行くべきだ」になる ■You sould be in the park. 聞き手として。「公園にいるはずだ」と受け取られれう。 もうひとつのMustに関しても同じで ■You must take me to the airport. 聞き手としては、「あなたは私を空港に連れていくに違いない」でなく「あなたは私を空港に連れて行かなければいけない」になる。 ■What you sais must be true. 「あなたの言っている事は本当にちがいない。」 ※must have は「～だったに違いない」 had to do 「～しなければいけなかった」と言うのはしっています。 そこで今回の二つの意味をもつ助動詞 "could"「～かもしれない」「～できた」 に関して 「かもしれない」のcouldは この後に "be動詞"を繋げることが普通なのでしょう？ ■This box could be present for you であれば、確実に「かもしれない。可能性はあるね」という風に聞こえます。 ■She could open this box では聞き手としてどのようにきこえるのでしょうか？ 「彼女はこの箱を開けるかもしれない」という事を伝えたいのです。 be動詞ではなくこのように一般動詞を持ってきたい場合で「かもしれない」を表現したいとき。。。 もちろん、、、she might open this box.でもいいと思いますが、could をつかった表現をさがしてます。 ～するかもしれない という場合、通常couldを使わないんでしょうか？ また、「～できた」 実際にする事ができた場合は 「be able to 」を通常使うと聞きました。
