英語で書かれた童話について
英語の童話の和訳ができないんです。所々できましたが、まだよく分かりません。誰か手伝ってくれる方お願いします。 タイトルは「大きなカブ」です。 １And the turnip grew up sweet and strong and big and enormous. ２Then, one day, the old man went to pull it up. ３He pulled and pulled again. but he could not pull it up. 以上です。 自分なりに訳してみました。 １ そしてカブは成長して甘くそしてたくましく、そして大きく、 そして巨大に。 ２ それである日おじいさんはそれを引き抜くために行った。 ３ 彼は引き抜いたそして引き抜いたもう一度、 しかし彼は までです。３は途中までです。ちなみに文としておかしくない日本語文になるようにしてくれると嬉しいです。 多いですがお願いします。

Gです。 補足質問を読ませてもらいました. ＞And they pulled and pulled against still they could not pull it up. です。特にstillの部分が分かりません。これも日本文らしくお願いします。 これは、いろいろやったけど、努力はしたけど、「それでも」と言う日本語表現のフィーリングを出した表現なんですね。 ですから、And they pulled and pulled again, but they could not pull it up.とstillを抜いてしまうと、何度も引き抜こうとしたのですが、出来ませんでした。となってしまい、「引き抜こうとした」と言う「一生懸命にやった」「目的を果たそうとした」「がんばった」にも「かかわらず」とか「それなのに」「どうしても」と言うフィーリングが出てこないわけです。 これらのフィーリングを出すためにstillが使われたわけですね。 He studied so hard but still could not pass the test. と言うような文章に使うわけですね。 にもかかわらず、とフィーリングをつかめますね。

こんにちは！ すでにプロの翻訳があるようですが、うま過ぎますね。笑） １And the turnip grew up sweet and strong and big and enormous. sweet and strong and big and enormous は補語ですので、grew up (to be) sweet and...と考えればいいでしょう。and...and...and...が童話らしいリズムです。 そして蕪はそだって、あまく、つよく、おおきく、ぶっとくなりました。 ２Then, one day, the old man went to pull it up. そしてある日、おじいさんは、蕪を抜きにでかけました。 ３He pulled and pulled again, but he could not pull it up. pulled ... pulled ...pulled it up がいいリズムです。 おじいさんは、うんとこしょ、うんとこしょと蕪を引っぱりました。でもどうしても引っこ抜けませんでした。

アメリカに38年半住んでいる者です。 私なりに書かせてくださいね。 １）と２）は十分フィーリングは感じ取っていると思います。そのフィーリングに基づいて＃１さんのご回答の様に日本語としても自然な表現にすればいいのです。 ただ、（３）ではフィーリングを感じ取っていないなと思い書いています。 ここで感じ取ってもらいたいのは、２）でもpull it upと３）のpull it upと言う表現と３）のpulled and pulledの表現の違いを感じて欲しいのです。 pulled and pulledは単に「引く」だけの作業です。 引いてまた更に引いたと言っているわけです。 何回も引っ張ったけど、と言う表現なんですね。 しかしpull it upは「地面から引き上げる」つまり「引き抜く」と言う表現なのです。 つまり引っ張るだけでは引き抜いたという事にはならないわけですね。 ですから、やくとして、何度も引き抜こうとしたけど(何度も引き抜こうとして引っぱったけどと言う意味ですね)と言う訳も使えるわけです。 引き抜こうとしたけど(引き抜くことは）出来なかった、何度も引っ張ったけど引き抜くことは出来なかった、と訳せるわけです。 これでいかがでしょうか? 分かりにくい点がありましたら、補足質問してください。

When he told his friends about that, ......... 最後の about thatはabout itだと思いました。「he was going to change schools」これをitに置き換えて about itとするべきではないのでしょうか？ 他のと比べてみて何が違うかわかりません。 But they didn't clean the place and went home. Masako saw it and became very sad. ここはsaw itな理由はわかります。they didn't clean the place and went homeを当てはめることができますから。同じように上の文もitだと思いました。
