私の個人的な感覚ですが、、、 鑑賞者が様々な解釈をすることを、作家が期待しているようですね。 この場合のdisturbingは、鑑賞者から見て「抽象的なメッセージが含まれていて色々な解釈が出来る→なんかモヤモヤする」といった感情を表すような感じがします。 ですので、作品を見て一般的な褒め言葉を並べ立てた鑑賞者に対して、「あんたよく見もしないでテキトーなこと言ってるでしょ?」といった含みで答えているのだと思います。 ちなみにこの場合の be supposed to は ～じゃないかな という推量ではなくて、～なはずである のように前提条件であることを表します。 A: ... They're supposed to be disturbing. 「この作品群はdisturbingな状態のはずである」 つまり、「私はこれらをdisturbingに創ったつもりなんですよ」 といった感じです。

数年間Ｅメール交換をしているペンパル（同年代、大学生）が、 この数ヶ月で大きな生活の変化があったのだそうです。 母親の再婚で家を出て引っ越したり、 大切なペットが２匹同時に亡くなったり・・ 私もつらい時に励ましてもらったことのある、大切な方です。 メールでねぎらいや励ましの言葉をかけてあげたいのですが、 日本語で言う、「大変だったね、無理しないで・・」というニュアンスは 英語ではどうやったら出せるのでしょうか？ I'm sure everything will work out for the best. や、 I hope you're not too tired.くらいしか思いつきません。 何か、心温まる英語表現というのは無いものでしょうか。 小さなことでもいいので、アドバイスいただければ嬉しいです。
