Googleで"water power"と"a water power"を調べてみました。 aが付くのは、a water power system など、後ろに何か付く場合みたいです。 systemはcountable（可算）名詞。 water powerそのものは１つ２つとは数えられないから、a無しでいいんじゃないでしょうか。 ロングマンの英英辞典は可算・不可算が出るのですね。 便利だ～。 ↓

a と the って悩みの種はつきないですよね？ 以下は私の理解なので間違っているかもしれません。基本的には他の回答者さんの通りと思います。私は基本的には文脈に依存すると考えています。 例えば「水力にはこれこれといくつかあることが知られている。ところが、この方法は考えようによっては水力（のひとつ）である（と考えられる）」の最後の「水力（のひとつ）である」という場合は、a water power というように a をつけて「ひとつの」という意味を示すのもありかと思います。

前後に何もなければ It is water power. です。 その後に station とか付けば a water power station.

こんばんは、答え方についての素朴な疑問です。 Is this a pen? Yes, It is (a pen). 「これ」に対して「それ」ですよね? それでは Is it a pen? に対しては、 Yes, This is (a pen). でいいのですか? Is that a pen? に対しては、 Yes, that is (a pen). でいいのですか? なんか全てYes,it is. のような気もしますが、 「それ」と考えないほうがいいのでしょうか? もしくは(a pen)が省略されているわけではないのですか? 宜しくお願いいたします。

a bad Englishに は一般的は言うことがないのに、使えるという方がいらっしゃるので質問です。不可算名詞は数えられないから不可算名詞なのです。aがつく場合は特殊なケースでしょ。ランダムハウスの英語辞典によると、「一種の」というときは an をつけるとありますが、このようなケースは稀でしょう。a bad Englishは一種の変な英語ぐらいの意味になるのでしょうかね。 で、質問、A bad/good/poor,etc. Englishを実際に教養のあるネイティブから聞いたり、見たり、教わったりしたことがある方はいらっしゃいますか。例えば、You speak A good English. It is A bad English等。私は、３０年以上、英語と付き合っていますが、たったの一度もありません。 因みにgoogleで it is a bad Englsih (3件) it is bad English (30,000件)

fun は「たのしみ、おもしろみ」という意味で名詞なので fun の前には a が必要だと思うのですが、実際の会話の英文で It is fun. と a の無いまま使われているものを見たことがあるように思います。事実、なぜだか、私の口は It is fun. と覚えています。（間違えて覚えているのかも・・・） 質問(1)どちらも可なのでしょうか。 質問(2)It is fun. が口語だとするなら、レポート提出などで紙に書く場合は、It is fun. は間違った英文として判断され不可になるのでしょうか？
