昨日誕生だったという文を英語にすると
友達が「It was a 10th birthday of my daughter yesterday」という文をブログで書いてました。 「へーそんな言い方あるんだー。私ならYesterday was my daughter's 10th birthday.または She turned 10 years old yesterday.にするなー。」新しい表現なのでゲットしようと思いその前に友達のアメリカ人に聞いたところit's weird.と言われ My daughter had her 10th birthday yesterday.と直されました。 この文は誕生日が昨日だったという事実を伝える時だけ（誕生日パーティーはしない）の時でも使えますか。 検索したらI had my son's 11th birthday at... という例文が出てきました。この場合はatがあるのでhaveはパーティーを開催するのhaveですよね。atがあるかないかで違うのでしょうか？ それとも2つの文は主語と目的語が同じ文と違う文なのでそもそも違う文なのでしょうか？ それとit was....の文はおかしいですか？

＃1です。補足です。 ＞＞ 「昨日は娘の10歳の誕生日だった」は Yesterday was my daughter's 10th birthday. でも My daughter had her 10th birthday yesterday. でも 構造が違うだけで、意味は同じです。 ＞＞では、この教えてもらった文のhaveはパーティを開催するという意味のhaveでしょうか？ とは限りません。have -day で、～を過ごす、～何とかデーだ、という意味もあるのでパーティーと言う目的語が無い場合には、ただ「誕生日を持った ＞ 誕生日だった」という意味です。 よく聞く「別れの挨拶」have a nice day も別に「良いパーティーを開催せよ」という命令ではなく「じゃあ、よい日を ＞ さよなら」という意味です。
友達のアメリカ人に聞けばいいじゃない……。ここで聞くよりよっぽど正確でしょ。

ご回答ありがとうございます。 分かりにくい質問だったのでもう一度質問させて下さい。 1.昨日は娘の10歳の誕生日でした。という文でしたら Yesterday was my daughter's 10th birthday.なのですね。 ありがとうございます。 アメリカ人の友人に教えてもらったMy daughter had her 10th birthday yesterday. はまた意味が違うのですね。 英語が伝わっていないことが分かりました。日本語で質問してよかったです。 では、この教えてもらった文のhaveはパーティを開催するという意味のhaveでしょうか？ それが分かれば２番の疑問も解けます。もし開催するのhaveなら3番の疑問も解けます。 It was...の文はあり得ないのですね多分翻訳ソフトを使ったのだと思います。

現在読んでいるペーパーバックで文の構造が理解できず、内容が理解できません。 どなたかご教示願います。 It was hard to fit into words the sense of urgency each of these had taken on at the time, how when I was at work it seemd that my job was supremely relevant, even important. 前回の質問で、大変丁寧な回答頂き、It was hard ～ at the time, までの文の構造は 理解できました。 how when I was at work it seemd that my job was supremely relevant, even important. の部分ですが、when I was at work ～ のように how がなければ、副詞節であることは 分かるのですが、how when と続く用法が理解できません。 when は副詞節を導きますが、how は副詞節を導くことが出来ないとの理解でいます。 how I was at work となった場合、意味的にも不自然な感じがします。 Google で how when を完全一致検索すると、かなりの英文がヒットすることより、英文としては 誤りではないことが分かります。 よろしくお願い致します。

次の文の時間関係について質問です。 It rained all day yesterday, which I expected. had expectedじゃないんでしょうか。 一日中雨だったよりも前に思ったことは分かるから、過去形なんでしょうか。それとも雨が降っている間に一日中降ると思ったから過去形なんでしょうか。 あと、I lent him the money that was in my pocket.は、貸した時にはポケットの中に無いのでhad beenにならないかと思うのですが、これも分かるからなんでしょうか。
