A film editor must creatively work with the layers of images, story, dialogue, music, pacing, as well as the actors' performances to effectively "re-imagine" and even rewrite the film to craft a cohesive whole. 映画編集者は創造的に以下のような作業に取り組まねばならない。つまり出演者の演技はもとより、階層的なイメージ、あらすじ、方言、音楽、速度感、などを操作する事で映画のイメージを再構成というか、むしろ書き換えてしまい一貫した統一性のある作品として纏め上げるのである。通常、編集者とは映画作りで、かくも積極的な役割を担っているのである。 ー ー 調べましたが cohesive whole とは（一貫性のある社会）（有機的にまとまったもの）という（濃密に相互に組み合ったまとまりのあるもの）を示す抽象的な表現のようです
