簡単な例で考えてみましょう。 1. Where do you usually study, read books, and have meals in your house? この英文が自然な印象を与えるのは、それぞれも動詞の前に「Where do you usually」が省略されている（と簡単に聞き手が推測できる）からです。 もし、それぞれの動詞の形が異なっていたらどうでしょう。 2. How were you interested in science, started researches in nuclear physics, and were awarded such a prize? 理解可能な英文ではあります。しかし、何か違和感を感じさせる英文です。きちんとした Native speaker なら下記のように表現するでしょう。 3. How were you interested in science, (how) did you start researches in nuclear physics, and (how) were you awarded such a prize? 「how」は省略可能です。「冗長さ」を避けるためには省略した方がかえって良いという人もいるでしょう。 しかし、「start」の前の「did you」を省略した方が良いという理由は存在しません。むしろ、このような省略は避けられる方が多いでしょう。「were you (inteested)」から「did you (start)」を復元することが普通ではないからです。 同じように「were you awarded」の中の「you」を省略する理由はありません。「you」がなければかえって分かりにくくなります。 最初の部分の「were you interested」をもとにしてできる省略は「were awarded」ではありません。省略するなら、むしろ「were you」を取り去って単に「awarded」のみとする方が自然です。 書き出しが、例えば「Do you know how you were inetersted in ...」であれば、後半も同じように考えて「(do you know how you) started ..., and (do you know how you) were awarded ...」とすることはできます。 前回も説明しましたが、お尋ねの英文を書いた人は「To what extent were Venezuelans and Zimbabweans attracted ...」と書いた後で、突然「Can you guess to what extent Venezuelans and Zimbabweans were atracted ...」という（ほぼ同じ意味を表す）英文が頭の中に浮かび、その結果「(can you guess to what extent they) admire ..., and (can you guess to what extent they) are induced ... 」という表現になってしまったのではないかと想像されます。 言葉は生き物ですから、話の途中に起こる意識の変化によって、それ以降の表現が変わってしまうことはありがちなことです。問題は、聞き手がそれを「全然大丈夫」と考えるか「全然問題ない」と考えることはできないとするかという問題になります。私は後者だと考えています。 ご参考になれば・・・。

問題集をしていてわからない文がありました。 I came to understand the full extent of the illness. 私は、「病気が体中を蝕んでいることが分かるようになった。」としましたが、模範訳は 「病気の全貌が分かるようになった」 でした。FULL EXTENT OFは体中にはびこったという意味にはならないのでしょうか？
