事件の第一報を伝える最初の文章では現在完了を用います。（習慣的なものですが、あえて言えば時制を変えることで現在につながる事件だと相手の気を引くことが出来ます）引き続いて時刻や状況を述べるには過去形を用います。次のようにheard という過去形の後でもあえて現在完了を用います。 ----I heard that there has been an earthquake and Tsunami in your country(Japan). many of you have lost your friends and families. When I heard this news, I got very sad because I love you very much.

“Eric” and I were together for five years and had a horrible breakup a year ago. While we were together I grew very close to his daughter “Amy,” and she to me. Amy’s mom has not been in the picture for many years. Amy took our breakup badly, and pretty much took my side in everything. We’ve kept in touch and often done things together since Eric and I split. We basically don’t discuss him. I last spoke to Amy early in September. Since then she hasn’t called or texted. I’ve tried to contact her several times, telling her I miss her and asking about getting together. I’ve tried toはなぜ過去形ではなく現在完了形なのでしょうか？よろしくお願いします

when と現在完了は用いられないということが文法書によく載っています。 ×When has she begun? ○When did she begin? 説明として、完了形は一時的な動作や状態を表す過去形や現在形と違い、時間の幅がある時に用いる。しかし、when は時間のみの一時的なことを訊くので、そぐわない。という説明がされますが、どうも納得できません。以下のような点です。 (1) when は一時的な時刻を訊く場合だけでなく、When are you free? などと聞いた場合、９時から10時までというように時間の幅をもって答えられるのではないでしょうか？ (2)以下のような文が文法的に正しいということはどう説明できるのでしょう？ When have you been there? そこへいつ行ったことがありますか？ When have I told you a lie? いつ君に嘘をついたかい（一度もついてないよ） 以上、２点についてお分かりになるかたがいらしたら、ご指導ください。

So she is not here. 考え： She has gone to Vienna to study music. コメント：あってるかと。。 2. She went to Korea to learn taekwondo a couple of month ago. 英作文で「凶悪犯罪のニュースを聞く」という部分があって、解説で、hear about violent crimes とするか、hear that a violent crime has happened と表現すると書いてあって、hear the news that S＋V とすることはできない、と書いてありました。なぜ最後の表現はダメなのですか？

参考書ふうの和訳をお願いします。対象は◎から下の英文です。 It is only superficially paradoxical that most novels about the future are narrated in the past tense. Michael Frayn's A Very Private Life (1968) starts in the future tense ("Once upon a time there will be a little girl called Uncumber") but he can't keep it up for long, and soon shifts into the present tense. ◎To enter into the imagined world of a novel we have to orientate ourselves in space and time with the characters, and the future tense makes that impossible. The past tense is "natural" for narrative; even the use of the present tense is somewhat paradoxical, since anything that has been written down has by inference already happened. * David Lodge, The Art of Fiction
