Gary Lewis loved his car. But it was an old car, so he often needed to fix it. One December morning, at his home in Denver, USA Gary wanted to fix his car. He drove it onto some blocks. He lay on the ground under the car. Then he started work. Suddenly, the car fell off the blocks. It fell onto Gary. The car weighed 1,200 kilograms. Gary couldn't move but he could shout for help. Raymond Brown, aged thirteen, and his nine-year-old sister Tamika were playing in the street. They were playing with their friends Omar Turner, aged ten, Gordon Stevens, nine, and Shugey Shead, eight, They heard Gary shouting and ran to help. Together, the five children lifted the car Gary. Gary was badly hurt, and he had to go to the hospital. "I'm very lucky. Those children saved my life," he said later. "I will never forget this." People were amazed that five children could ligt a 1,200 kilogram car. TV and newspaper reporters came to speak to the children. They asked the children why they were so storong. "I drink lots of milk," said Shugey. "I drink milk too," said Tamika, "and I eat cheese." "I eat lots of candy," said Raymond. "I think the candy made me strong!"

De Witte repulsed the German cavalry attacks by ordering the cavalry, which included a company of cyclists and one of pioneers to fight dismounted and meet the attack with massed rifle fire. Significant casualties were inflicted upon the Germans. The German cavalry had managed to obscure the operations on the German right flank and established a front parallel with Liège and discovered the positions of the Belgian field army but had not been able to penetrate beyond the Belgian front line and discover Belgian dispositions beyond. Although a Belgian victory, the battle had little strategic effect and the Germans later besieged and captured the fortified areas of Namur, Liège and Antwerp, on which Belgian strategy hinged. The German advance was stopped at the Battle of the Yser at the end of October 1914, by which time the Germans had driven Belgian and Allied troops out of most of Belgium and imposed a military government.

In June 1916 Sharif Hussain, the Hashemite ruler of Mecca revolted against the Ottoman Empire which, under the rule of the Young Turks, had by that time begun movement towards ethnic nationalism and was marginalizing the office of the Caliph. Hussain wanted to move north and create an Arab state from Yemen to Damascus and establish a Hashemite Caliphate. Medina was, at the time, deemed important in that regard and was connected to the Ottoman Empire through a railway line. Hussain's forces besieged Medina, beginning in 1916 and lasting till January 1919.

下記の和訳をお願いします Fed banks saw some signs of improvement, including stabilization of industrial output at a low level but felt job losses and declining sales in September of automobiles and new homes hinted at a slowdown in fourth-quarter consumer spending. Some of the regional Fed directors said they saw little chance that excess capacity in the economy was likely to shrink soon, which meant there was little likelihood of prices climbing sharply.

Firepower could conserve infantry but a battle of material prolonged the war and consumed the troops which were preserved in each battle. In 1915 and early 1916, German industry quintupled the output of heavy artillery and doubled the production of super-heavy artillery. French production had also recovered since 1914 and by February 1916, the army had 3,500 heavy guns. In May 1916, Joffre implemented a plan to issue each division with two groups of 155  mm guns and each corps with four groups of long-range guns. Both sides at Verdun had the means to fire huge numbers of heavy shells to suppress defences, before risking infantry movements. At the end of May, the Germans had 1,730 heavy guns at Verdun against 548 French, which were sufficient to contain the Germans but not enough for a counter-offensive.

"Following this change, a port should be developed where fishing boats may take refuge," Ishihara said at the Hudson Institute, a Washington think tank. "I further believe that we must seriously begin contemplating the establishment of a permanent post for the Self-Defense Forces in this area" he said. Japan said in 2008 that it had reached kn agreement with China for joint drilling of potentially lucrative gas fields near the disputed islands. But the deal has gone nowhere, with China saying its stance has not changed. Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda's Democratic Party of Japan has mostly sought smooth ties with China, which says its growing military spending is for peaceful purposes. Noda asked Chinese President HC Jintao for progress on the 2008 deal during talks last month on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific summit in Hawaii, although Japanese officials said Hu was noncommittal. But Ishihara said China has become "assertive, one may even say aggressive" in recent years and pointed to its actions in separate maritime disputes with the Philippines, Vietnam and other Southeast Asian nations, "Emboldened by its new economic weight and growing military might, China's proclamations of its 'peaceful rise' appear more and more at odds with the emerging reality," he said. Ishiara, leading a delegation from his party, was in Washing- ton partly to ease concerns over the opposition's stance on the Trans-Pacific Partnership free- trade pact championed by President Barack Obama.
