助動詞willがwould、shallがshould、canがcouldに変化するのは、当たり前のように覚えてきました。共通点は△ouldの部分ですが、willとshallが△ouldになるのはなんとなくですが雰囲気でわかるようなきがします。ところでなぜcanがcouldになるのでしょうか？またcanがcouldになれるなら、mayはmouldになぜなれなかったのでしょうか？ふっと気になって、それがいつまでも引っかかっています。よろしくお願いいたします。

比較でのnotとnoの違いがよくわかりません。 A・・・・not 比較級 than B この場合はA＞Bというのがnotは反対であるという否定なので逆になりA＜＝Bになるんですよね。 A・・・・・no 比較級 ｔhanBの場合はnoが比較級を否定しているため差がないとかかれていましたが、noというのは not anyですよねそうすると結局notが含まれるため、反対を表すんじゃないんですか？？？ Noが、差がないを表す、というのは納得いきません。Noの正体はnot anyなんですから。。

タイトルの通りです。

冠詞については、ここでよく質問されていますが、次の文章がありました。 「塾」を英語でなんと言うのか、と思って辞書を引いたら、 a juku schoolやa cram schoolなど、出てきました。 で、例文に「私は塾に行く」でI go to a juku school.とあったのです。 「塾に行く」とは普通「勉強するために塾に行く」と解釈すると思うのです。 でしたら、go to schoolのように、冠詞がいらないように思うのです。 それでどうも釈然としないのです。 冠詞についてはほんとにわからなくて、こんな中学生のような質問でお恥ずかしい限りなのですが、どなたか説明をお願いできないでしょうか。
