During one of the patrols, on 19 August, a group of 68 Ottoman soldiers was found half dead from thirst by the 5th Light Horse Regiment (2nd Light Horse Brigade) who, rather than attacking them, gave them water and their rides. The commanding officer and his men led the Ottoman Army soldiers on their horses for 5 miles (8.0 km) through deep sand until met by transport. "This was a very queer sight and worthy of a moving picture [of these] poor sacrifices of the Huns." British infantry was brought forward to fortify and provide garrisons along the length of the railway. They formed a firm base for mobile operations and defence in depth for the huge administrative organisation advancing with the railway, in support of the Anzac Mounted Division and the 52nd (Lowland) Division. The movement of the infantry across Sinai was eased by construction of wire netting roads also used by Egyptian Labour Corps, light vehicles, cars, and ambulances. This reasonably stable surface, which did not sink, was constructed from two or four rolls of rabbit wire; one inch mesh wire rolled out side by side, wired together with the edges fixed into the sand with long steel or wooden pegs to produce a reasonable track.

A reconnaissance in force to Bir el Mazar was carried out by the 2nd and 3rd Light Horse Brigades, the 1st Battalion, of the Imperial Camel Corps Brigade (ICCB), the New Zealand Machine Gun Squadron and the ICCB's Hong Kong and Singapore Battery, on 16–17 September 1916. At the limit of their line of communication the light horse, infantry, machine guns and artillery were not able to capture the 2,000 strong, well entrenched garrison which made a determined stand. After demonstrating the strength of the advancing army, they successfully withdrew back to Anzac Mounted Division's Headquarters at Bir Sulmana 20 miles (32 km) to the west. The Ottoman force abandoned Bir el Mazar shortly after. The report of the 2nd Light Horse Brigade described their 5th Light Horse Regiment being fired on by anti-aircraft guns during the operations and reported one man killed and nine wounded. The 3rd Light Horse Brigade recorded that the troops of the Imperial Camel Corps Brigade and the artillery battery were unable to move quickly enough to take part in the attack, and their brigade lost three killed, three wounded and two injured. Airmen of No. 1 and No. 14 Squadrons confirmed anti-aircraft guns fired on the light horse, describing the ground engagement as so tough the Ottoman Army soldiers resorted to this extreme measure, turning their anti-aircraft guns away from the attacking planes. The Ottoman soldiers withdrew to the Wadi El Arish, with garrisons at Lahfan and Magdhaba.

Subjected to further bombing air raids, by 2 October aerial reconnaissance photographs revealed the German aircraft hangars formerly at El Arish had disappeared. By 25 October there was no anti-aircraft fire reported over El Arish and reductions in the Ottoman–German force based there were apparent. By this time the railway construction was well passed Salmana where a British forward aerodrome was under construction and No. 1 Squadron were involved in photographing the area around El Arish and Magdhaba, and No. 14 Squadron were reconnoitring Rafah. On 11 November a Martinsyde and nine B E.'s, loaded with bombs and petrol, left the Kantara and Mahemdia aerodromes at dawn and assembled at Mustabig, just west of Bir el Mazar. There a raiding force of five B.E.'s and the Martinsyde formed the largest force yet organised by Australians or any other air squadron in the East, filled up with petrol and bombs and set off in formation towards Beersheba. Over Beersheba the anti-aircraft guns engaged them with high explosive and shrapnel, and the raiders flew through a flurry of white, black, and green bursts. The Martinsyde dropped a 100–lb. bomb fair in the centre of the aerodrome; two 20–lb. bombs hit tents; others made direct hits on the railway to Beersheba and the station. A Fokker and an Aviatik took to the air but were decisively beaten. After photographing Beersheba and the damage caused by the bombs, the airmen returned, reconnoitering Khan Yunis and Rafa on the way. All machines arrived safely, after having spent seven hours in flight. Two days later a German aeroplane retaliated by bombing Cairo.

みなさまいつもお世話になります。 第2次世界大戦当時、護衛艦艇で水上飛行機を積載するタイプはあったのでしょうか？ もしあるなら、陸地から離れている場合に船団などを護衛するために、広範囲な哨戒飛行に対応するため、哨戒用の水上機を数機積んで母艦にして哨戒飛行するみたいな運用はありましたか？ （あくまでも船団の護衛艦艇を前提の質問です。） 当時の上海航路などは日本と大陸を結ぶのに相当量の輸送船団が行き来したと思います。 大村から哨戒飛行に出ても途中で引き返すことになり、哨戒飛行の空白が生じるので、質問のような運用をした時期があったのでは？と思いました。 よろしくお願いします。

はやぶさ２の打ち上げが成功しました。 その打ち上げの様子を、おそらく飛行機から撮影した映像がありました。下からロケットが飛んでくる様子が写っていました。それなら、その飛行機から宇宙に向けて衛星だけ打ち上げたら、ロケットなんて使わないくていいと思います。 どうして、無駄なことをするんですか。

最近、麻生氏の発言に関する質問をしたのですが、いただいた回答を見ていて、疑問に思える事柄が出来たので、質問いたします。 派遣・契約社員や共働きなど、経済的に安定しない、あるいは収入が少ない家庭は、子供を生み育てることが出来ない。という回答をいただきました。生物学的にはできるが、社会的には「しないほうがよい」というように理解しましたが、何故、そう思うのでしょう？ 私自身、育ちは貧乏でして、高校からは学費を奨学金とバイトで稼ぎ、一応短大までは出ました。とりあえずの衣食住の最低のところは、何とかしてもらったというところだと思います。 それくらいでも、子供は育つものだと思うのですが、回答やほかの方の意見を見ていると「塾は週何回、せめて大学までは苦労させずに」とか「小さい頃の習い事はあれとこれと、旅行にも行きたいしおいしいものも食べたい。子供にいい思いをたくさんさせたい」という感じが主流のように思えます。 確かに、子供に与えられるなら、そういう「いい思い」や「苦労させない」事をしてあげたいですが、現実として、それが出来るほどの収入を得るのは、簡単ではないでしょう。でも、それが理由で子供を授かる選択肢を選ばないのは、何か違う気がするのです。 親が与えられる範囲内のことをする。子供が足りないと思った部分は、自分で何とかするように努力してもらう。は無責任なのでしょうか？ なぜ、派遣や契約では、子供を生む環境が整わないのでしょうか？正社員になって、給料が毎年上がり、生活がずっと先まで見通せないと、子供が埋めないのでしょうか？ 皆さんの思うところを、教えてください。 よろしくお願いします。

　モンゴル帝国の歴史を調べると、決まって何度も出てくる戦法が有ります。「退却と見せかけて敵をおびき出し、伏兵によって包囲殲滅する」というものですが、相手の将軍はなぜこんな単純な戦法に何度も引っかかってるのでしょうか？ 　軍隊の指揮官なら当然、退却は罠かもしれない、伏兵がいないか索敵させながら進むはずですし、モンゴル軍がこんな戦法を使ったぞと先の戦いの情報が入るはずです。

In February 1916, the Western Frontier Force (Major-General William Peyton), was reinforced and a British column under Lukin advanced west along the coast, to re-capture Sollum in February and en route, a Senussi encampment at Agagiya was spotted by aircraft. On 26 February, the column attacked the Senussi at Agagiya and captured Jaafar Pasha, commander of the Senussi forces on the coast. As the Senussi retreated, they were cut off by a Dorset Yeomanry cavalry charge; the Yeomen lost half their horses and about a third of the riders but dispersed the column, caused about 500 casualties and took 39 prisoners, then captured the Senussi baggage train and pursued the survivors into the desert. Sollum was re-occupied by the British on 14 March 1916, which ended the coastal campaign.

The British withdrew from Sollum to Mersa Matruh, 120 miles (190 km) east, which had better facilities for a base and the Western Frontier Force (Major-General Alexander Wallace) was created. On 11 December, a British column at Duwwar Hussein was attacked along the Matruh–Sollum track and in the Affair of Wadi Senba, drove the Senussi out of the wadi. The reconnaissance continued and on 13 December, at Wadi Hasheifiat the British were attacked again and after a delay, forced the Senussi to retreat. The British returned to Matruh until 25 December, then made a night advance to surprise the Senussi.

At the Affair of Wadi Majid, the Senussi were defeated again but were able to withdraw to the west. Air reconnaissance found more Senussi encampments at Halazin, which was attacked on 23 January, in the Affair of Halazin. The Senussi fell back skilfully and then attempted to envelop the British, who were pushed back on the flanks as the centre advanced and defeated the main body of Senussi, who were again able to withdraw. The WFF advanced along the coast from Mersa Matruh to Sidi Barrani, to re-capture Sollum on the Libyan–Egyptian frontier but as a deception it was rumoured that the WFF was about to retreat from Mersa Matruh.

The guns were silenced by the British artillery and the Senussi were driven off; expecting more attacks, Lukin abandoned the night march. Next day, the Yeomanry reconnoitred at 5:00 a.m. and discovered that the Senussi were still at Agagia with no outposts, occupying sand hills with about 1,500 men, three guns and five machine-guns. The defensive position had an area of about 1.6 by 3.2 kilometres (1 mi × 2 mi) and was entrenched among sand dunes on a low plateau, with barbed wire at some points. An attack from the north would have to advance over ground offering no cover.

何度も申し訳ありません。 本日、マンションの１０階の手摺にスズメバチがいたのでかなり近づいて写真を撮りました。 カメラを持って近づくと歩いて手摺の反対側に行き顔だけ出してこちらを向いてました。 朝方には１３階にて尻尾が黒いスズメバチを見ました。 この写真から見て、ヒメスズメバチの雄でしょうか。 また、ポーチ内の天井に止まっているのを何度も見かけ写真を撮ろうと門を静かに開けると いつも逃げられました。１匹だけいる蜂を逃がすためには音を立てるのは良い方法でしょうか。 何度も申し訳ありませんがご回答の程宜しくお願い申し上げます。

The two-day battle for Romani and the Suez Canal had been won by the British infantry and Australian, British and New Zealand mounted troops. They captured approximately 4,000 German and Ottoman combatants and killed more than 1,200, but the main enemy force was able to escape with all their artillery, except for one captured battery, and retreat back to Oghratina after fighting a successful rearguard action at Katia.Having borne the burden of the long days of patrolling, reconnaissance and minor engagements with the advancing Austrian, German and Ottoman columns prior to the battle, the 1st and 2nd Light Horse Brigades had alone withstood the attack from midnight on 3/4 August until dawn on 4 August, as well as continuing to fight during the long days of battle.

When they had advanced across the Sinai Desert, the Turkish force had constructed strong defensive positions. That they now made use of as they withdrew back east towards the Egyptian-Palestinian border.On 7 August the New Zealand Mounted Rifles Brigade leading the divisions pursuit of the Turkish force, located their rearguard at Oghratina. Attempting to turn their left flank, they found the opposition to strong for them and withdrew. Early the next day reconnaissance patrols found the rearguard had pulled out during the night. The patrols continued their reconnaissance and located the Turkish force again, establish on the high ground to the east of Bir ed Abd.

Reconnaissance patrols on the 10 August reported that the Turkish still occupied the area of the well. Then early the next day a New Zealand patrol reported the Turkish had evacuated the position and were at Salama. The remainder of the ANZAC Division advanced to contact with the Turkish force, but both sides only engaged in long range artillery and rifle fire. That night the Turkish force, broke off contact and retired to El Arish. At daylight on 10 August, strong patrols went forward and remained in touch with the force at Bir el Abd throughout the day, but without fresh troops, an attack in force could not be made. No serious fighting took place on 11 August, but von Kressenstein's force at Bir el Abd was watched and harassed, and plans were made for an attack on 12 August.
