英語と日本語ってつながっている？ あえてこのカテゴリで質問させていただきます。 英語と日本語ってつながってるのでしょうか？ というのも、英語を直訳すると、まんま日本語になることがあります。 例えば、hot spring（温泉）＝温かい泉→温泉 under the umbrella （傘下にある）＝傘の下→傘下 Yahoo辞書に載っていました。 There is no royal road to learning＝学問に王道無し Kill two birds with one stone＝一石二鳥 springには源泉という意味もあるし、他の言葉もとりわけどの国でも使われそうな言葉なので見当違いかもしれませんが、 それにしても似てるなぁと思うのです。 日本語からそのまま英語に直訳して出来た、または英語からそのまま日本語に直訳して出来た、ということは全く無いのでしょうか？ 参考になりそうな情報、資料などあったら教えてください！ 「オクラ」のように、その言葉がそのまま使われるようになった言葉や、和製英語は今回の質問と少し違うかなと思うので、それ以外で何か情報があったらお願いします。
