- could と be able to の違い
Thanks to his help, she was able to finish her homework. I hurried so (that) I could catch up with my friends. となるようですが、could の代わりに was able to が使えますか。

- could have sworn の解釈について
I could have swórn that… ≪ジーニアス辞書≫ Swear 項目 ▶I could have sworn I left my glasses on the desk. といってもいいほどだった ▶I could have cried for joy.

- can[could] have+p.p.
1. You can not have met him. He was here at that time. 2. You could not have met him. He was here at that time. 1.&2. 3. If he hadn't studied hard, he couldn't have passed the test. 3. I hugged and kissed my dad at every opportunity-nothing could have felt more natural.

Though I ran as fast as possible, I couldn't catch the bus. Though I have run as fast as possible, I couldn't catch the bus. 1. Since I ran as fast as possible, I could catch the bus. 2. Since I have run as fast as possible, I could catch the bus.
