こんにちは♪英語の勉強をしています＾＾ Ham has more calories than chocolate cake. Ham has fewer calories than Potato chips. Potato chips have more calories than chocolate cake. Ham has a higher percentage of total fat than chocolate cake. Ham has a lower percentage of total fat than chocolate cake. Potato chips have more calories than chocolate cake or ham. Chocolate cake has a lower percentage of total fat than ham or potato tips. これらの文章で １）aをつけるかつけないか ２）haveかhasか ３）fewerかlowerか の区別がいまいちわかりません アドバイスいただけませんでしょうか。 よろしくお願いいたします！

はじめまして。 １）aをつけるかつけないか まず可算名詞にはa(an),the,～s(esなど)をつける必要があります。 caloriesの場合は複数形～sに当たります。よってaやtheをつけません。 a higher percentageの場合percentageという名詞にhigherという副詞がかかっている単数形なのでaを用います。 waterなどの特定の形のないもの、loveなどの漠然とした物、全体を表すmusicなどは不可算名詞と扱われ上記の限りではありません。 よってこれのみでaなどをつけることはないです。（ニュアンスにもよります） ２）haveかhasか これは動詞のdo doesと同じ変化です。 三人称、単数、現在の主語には動詞＋s(es)が付きます。 よって同様にhave→hasになるわけです。 しかし案外曲者なのがここかもしれません。 familly,peopleなどは単語のみで判断するのではなくニュアンスで判断して単数か複数を判断してそれによってs(es)にする必要があります。 ３）fewerかlowerか これは意味の違いでわかると思います。 fewerは「わずかしかない」「少ない」の副詞、lowerは「低い」　の副詞です。 caloriesが少ないのでfewer、percentageが低いのでlowerというニュアンスです。 もっというならcaloriesは数値化した量、percentageは数値化した度数です。なので使い分けます。
