タイトルは 「The roles of the C-terminal domain and type III domains of chitinase A1 from Bacillus circulans WL-12 in chitin degradation.」 Bacterial strains.

Jensen and coworkers traced the annual spring outbreaks of earthy-musty odor in tap water derived from a major Canadian river to actinomycetes, which were introduced into these surface waters during snowmelt and runoff. Klausen et al. concluded that actinomycetes were responsible for low concentrations of geosmin and 2-MIB in streams flowing past trout breeding aquaculture operations, because isolated strains of Streptomyces from these habitats were able to synthesize geosmin and 2-MIB, while cyanobacteria were not present in large numbers.

Spices have a long and surprising history. They ware first used in China about 5000 years ago, mostly for medical reasons. News of their medicinal properties and their flavors spread rapidly. Eventually, a huge spice market grew up around the Mediterranean coastal areas. In ancient Rome, spices were also used in place of money. For example, peppercorns were a preferred form of payment. They were convenient because they were small and they weren’t as heavy as metal coins. There was such a high demand for pepper that its trading value was high. A pound of pepper could buy several sheep. Only the richest Romans could afford to season their food with pepper, so it was a sort of status symbol. Most people couldn’t afford to use their pepper for cooking. Over the centuries, people mainly used spices to preserve foods and to cover up the taste of foods that were rotten or diseased. Spices were so important for those reasons that they indirectly led to the exploration of the world. In the 15th and 16th centuries, European explorers set out to find new ways to get them. Explorers like Columbus discovered new lands as a result of their search for new spice trade routes. In this way, the story of spices is quite fascinating. 自分なりにやってみたものです ↓ The history of spices is long and full of surprising facts. The new system was used to calculate losses since August 1914, which took several months but the system had become established by February 1916. The états numériques des pertes were used to calculate casualty figures published in the Journal Officiel, the French Official History and other publications. The German armies compiled Verlustlisten every ten days, which were published by the Reichsarchiv in the deutsches Jahrbuch of 1924–1925. German medical units kept detailed records of medical treatment at the front and in hospital and in 1923, the Zentral Nachweiseamt published an amended edition of the lists produced during the war, incorporating medical service data not in the Verlustlisten. Monthly figures of wounded and ill servicemen that were treated were published in 1934 in the Sanitätsbericht.

It has been noted throughout the temperate zones of the southern hemisphere, which are now passing out of their winter season, that when pandemic H1N1 began to circulate, the relative importance of seasonal strains, represented by H3N2 in nearly all countries, rapidly diminished and pandemic H1N1 became the dominant strain. Some seasonal H1N1 strains were reported but were even less common than seasonal H3N2.

As illustrated in Fig. 3C, site directed mutagenesis of either site 1 (S1) or site 2 (S2) resulted in a moderate but significant (P<0.0001) decrease in the expression of sseL::lacZ. Additionally, an sseL manipulated promoter containing both mutations (S1+S2) demonstrated accumulative reduction in the expression of sseL::lacZ by more than 2-fold (P<0.0001), indicating that the S1 and S2 sites are required for optimal expression of sseL, possibly due to their role as PhoP binding sites. To further examine this idea and to rule out the possibility that these positions are used as SsrB binding sites, we analyzed the expression of an altered sseL promoter harboring both mutations in a phoP ssrB background complemented with PhoP or SsrB, provided in trans. In the presence of SsrB, this mutated promoter was readily able to induce sseL::lacZ expression, suggesting that SsrB does not bind to these sites. In contrast, providing PhoP in trans did not induce sseL::lacZ expression from the modified promoter (Fig. 3D), supporting the function of S1 and S2 loci as potential PhoP binding sites.

In The World Crisis, Winston Churchill used figures from French parliamentary records of 1920, to give French casualties from 5 August to 5 September 1914 of 329,000 killed, wounded and missing, German casualties from August to November of 677,440 men and British casualties in August and September of 29,598 men. By the end of August, the French Army had suffered 75,000 dead, of whom 27,000 were killed on 22 August. French casualties for the first month of the war were 260,000, of which 140,000 occurred during the last four days of the Battle of the Frontiers. In 2009, Herwig recorded that the casualties in the 6th Army in August were 34,598, with 11,476 men killed and 28,957 in September with 6,687 men killed. The 7th Army had 32,054 casualties in August, with 10,328 men killed and 31,887 casualties in September with 10,384 men killed. In the 1st Army in August there were 19,980 casualties including 2,863 men killed and in the 2nd Army 26,222 casualties. In the last ten days of August, the 1st Army had 9,644 casualties and the 2nd Army had losses of 15,693 men. Herwig wrote that the French army did not publish formal casualty lists but that the Official History Les armées françaises dans la grande guerre gave losses of 206,515 men for August and 213,445 for September. During the battle, French casualties were c. 260,000 men, of whom c. 75,000 men were killed.
