Transferの意味は難しいです。 航海関係の英語Webでは、transfer position , transfer position line とかtransfer point 等の様に「移動」の意味で使われています。 しかし、この文では移動とすると意味が変になる様な気がします。 それで、製図の時に現物の寸法を移す意味と同じとしてみました。 海図から何かへの転記です。 （ ）内は positionsとobjectsと複数に成っている為に、自船と 他船の関係に付いての記述と解釈した場合の補足です。 （自船と他船の）位置は、共通に海図に記された（２つの）目標物から （自船の進行方向に対する他船の）方位と距離により転記*されなければ ならず、・・ ＊ 移して或る数字にする「算出」、または「表記」とする事も可能です。 ・・・以下が有れば文の理解が容易になるかも知れません。

動詞というのはなかなか日本語では表しにくい場合があります。 transfer は基本、「動かす」の意味で、「情報などを伝える」という意味にもなります。 ここでは「映像などを写す」くらいでしょうね。 現実の位置を海図において再現する。 緯度や経度のような絶対的指標で表すのでなく、 「海図に記された物体からの方位と距離によって表される」 日本語では「表す、示す」でぴったりくると思います。

一般の海図の目標から距離を置いて運ぶことにより、位置は移動されるべきです。 transferは移動するの意味だと思います。

bearing は、下記の８のように「方位」です。 http://eow.alc.co.jp/search?q=bearing ですから普通の海図上のものからの方位と距離によって、位置は「伝える」べきである。 http://eow.alc.co.jp/search?q=transfer 例えば X は、Y 灯台の北北東（＝方位）１３海里（＝距離）にある、と伝えるべきである、と言うことです。

Ludendorff criticised the practice of holding ground regardless of its tactical value and advocated holding front-line positions with a minimum of troops and the recapture of lost positions by counter-attacks, a practice that had already been forced on the German armies on the Somme.
