England,Scotland,Ireland,Wales,Britain,Great Britain, the United Kingdom-why are there so many names for one small country? This is very confusing, and so it is worth spending some time getting the facts clear. The officisl name of the country is the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. This name is too long for everyday purposes and is usually abbreviated to the UK. The UK is made up of four countries(not regions),which are,in decreasing order of size:England,Scotland,Wales and Northern ireland. Great Britain is actually the name of the main island containing England,Scotland and Wales. The most common way, however,to refer to the whole country is Britain. This is not the official name, but most people use it because it is short and convenient. England,Scotland,Irelandand Wales all developed as separate kingdoms with their own languages and customs. As England became more powerful,it wanted to extend its control over the three Celtic kingdoms. It conquered Wales(1282) and Ireland(1652) and became politically united with Scotland(1707). But Scotland,Wales and Ireland never lost their status as separate countries. In the early 20th century, Ireland became an independent country known as the Irish Republic(or Eire,in the Irish language). Six counties in the northeastern corner, however, remained part of Britain, and are known as Northern Ireland.

The United Kingdom of Great Britain & Northern Ireland

  • ofの訳

The United Kingdom ofGreat Britain and Northern Ireland consists of four countries;England,Scotland, and Wales(Great Britian)together with Northern Ireland.

Ireland is a rather small country with a population of just under four million people. But in the United States, there are around 40 million people that claim to have Irish blood. There are also many people of Irish ancestry in Britain, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. How did the Irish come to be so spread out around the world? Since joining the European Union in 1973, Ireland has become a very prosperous country. Before that, however, Ireland was always one of Europe's poorest countries. The Irish were often forced to leave their country to look for work. Many left in the middle of 19th century, when disease hit the Irish potato crop. Potatoes were the staple food of the Irish. Many were faced with the choice of either leaving their homeland or starving to death. Among those that left Ireland at this time was a man called Kennedy. He settled in Boston, the city with the largest Irish population in the U.S., where he become a saloonkeeper. His son ,Joseph, grew up to be a millionaire and U.S. ambassador to Britain. His son,John F. Kennedy, became President of the United States. Today about 40 million U.S. citizens claim Irish ancestry. Irish-Americans can boast at least three U.S Presidents: John F. Kennedy,Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton. Irish-Americans are very proud of their roots. Many become interested in tracing their family history, and even travel to Ireland to visit the place where their ancestors lived. Ronald Reagan, who was Irish on his father's side, made an official visit to Ireland in 1984. While he was there, he took the opportunity to visit the home of his ancestors in Country Tipperary, in central Ireland. Irish-Americans like to keep the traditions of Ireland alive. The cities with the largest Irish-American populations―Boston, New York, and Chicago―have many Irish pubs, where you can drink Guinness, Ireland's famous dark beer, and listen to live bands playing traditional music on instruments such as violins, whistles and bagpipes. The best-known day in the Irish calender is March 17th. This is St. Patrick's Day, the day that commemorates the saint who brought the Christian religion to Ireland. In these and many other cities, this day is marked by large parades, music, dancing and street parties. The national colour of Ireland is green, and so on St. Patrick's Day celebrations are bigger and noisier in North America than in Ireland itself. The Irish community in Tokyo also organizes a St. Patrick's Day parade, which goes along Omote Sando.

The Central Powers consisted of the German Empire and the Austro-Hungarian Empire at the beginning of the war. The Ottoman Empire joined the Central Powers later in 1914. In 1915, the Kingdom of Bulgaria joined the alliance. The name "Central Powers" is derived from the location of these countries; all four (including the other groups that supported them except for Finland and Lithuania) were located between the Russian Empire in theeast and France and the United Kingdom in the west. Finland, Azerbaijan, and Lithuania joined them in 1918 before the war ended and after the Russian Empire collapsed. The Central Powers were composed of the following nations:

If Mexico were to enter war against the United States, it would strain relations with those nations. The Carranza government was recognized de jure by the United States on 31 August 1917 as a direct consequence of the Zimmermann telegram, since recognition was necessary to ensure Mexican neutrality in World War I. After the military invasion of Veracruz in 1914, Mexico would not participate in any military excursions with the United States in World War I, thus ensuring Mexican neutrality was the best outcome that the United States could hope for, even if Mexican neutrality would allow German companies to keep their operations in Mexico open. The telegram was sent to the German embassy in the United States for re-transmission to Eckardt in Mexico.

ここで、ロシア(正式名称Russian Federation)、ドイツ(正式名称Federal Republic of Germany)、イギリス(正式名称United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland)、イタリア(正式名称Republic of Italy)の4か国について、プレートにはどのように表記されるでしょうか。

After the Kingdom of Italy entered the war on the Allied side in 1915, the strategy of the Allies was to blockade the Adriatic at the Otranto Straits and monitor the movements of the Austrian fleet. In general, this strategy was successful, but the Austrians attacked the barrage on several occasions sinking many vessels: on the night of the 26/27 April 1915 the Austrian submarine U-5, commanded by Lieutenant Georg von Trapp (of Sound of Music fame), sank the French cruiser Léon Gambetta. The Austrians and Germans were also able to send submarines out into the Mediterranean where they did some damage. Total Allied warship losses to Austrian and German submarines were: two battleships, two armored cruisers, five destroyers, and two submarines (in addition to many damaged navy ships and sunk freighters). The primary sea bases for the Austrian fleet in the Adriatic were Pola (in Istria) and Cattaro (in southern Dalmatia).
