エマーソンの言葉について
下記の言葉について調べています。19世紀の米国で超絶主義を唱えたRalph Waldo Emersonの言葉だということまでは分かったのですが、どなたか、この言葉の出典だけでもご存知でしたら教えてください。 To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to know that even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. "He builded better than he knew; The conscious stone to beauty grew." ちなみに当方の訳は ”彼は知り得た以上のものを作り上げた。 美に対して理性的な石が成長した。” 作者はRalph Waldo Emersonです。当方の訳では意味が通じません。stoneに何か意味があるのかもしれません。

Rather, the ideal of the American family is group cooperation to help achieve the fulfillment of each individual member, and shared affection to renew each member's emotional strength. 上の文の最後の箇所の and shared affection to renew each member's emotional strength. ですが、andで並列されている箇所が分かりません。 意味から考えると、「愛情を共有する（愛情が共有される）」とするならば、sharedがaffectionを意味上の主語とする分詞ではないかと考えました。 そして、affectionという名詞のコロケーションを考えると、achieve affectionという表現がもしあれば、 achieve the fulfillment and (achieve) affection というように andはfulfillmentとaffectionを並列しているのではないかと考えましたが、あっているか自信がありません。 どなたか、お分かりになりましたら教えてください。

アメリカ文学史を読んでいます。 英文の理解を助けて頂きたいです。 Ralph Waldo Emerson のessay "The Over-Soul"の中の一文の紹介のようです。 "Over-Soul" is "that unity.... within which every man's particular being is contained and made one with all things". 抽象的な表現が多いので、これもそんな感じだと思うのですが、 文の構造さえもちょっと分かりにくいので、 教えて頂きたいです。 『"Over-Soul"とは"全ての人の独自の存在が含まれた内にあって 全てのものを一つにする、、、、統一である"』 と訳しましたが、間違ってますか？ とは言っても、全く意味が分かりません（涙） 分かる方いらっしゃいましたら、よろしくお願いします。

So Critics are wrong to doubt its result. が The argument holds the stud's author to a higher standard than it holds the study's criticsだと思ったのですが違うらしいです holds higher standardはどういう意味ですか？ criticsより大きい信頼を与えているという意味だと思ったのですが （正答はthe argument focuses its attention on the study's critics have relevant expertise）
