toとandの違い
other consumers step down to buy a Coach. (他の消費者はランクを下げて、コーチを買います) ここのtoをandに変えて「other consumers step down and buy a Coach.」にしても意味は変わらないでしょうか？

International aid, trade and diplomacy should be used to promote environmental protection and conservation. その文でwith the threatの with は because of , as a result of という意味だと思います。must be a top priorityは the thing that you think is most important and that needs attention before anything else とあります。質問１ですが"海洋と大気汚染が最優先事項”といういう言い方を英語ではするのでしょうか？ and の使いかたは、A, B ,C, and Dというように最後にand"を置くはずですけど、top priorityの主語は何ですか？the environmentだと思います。ocean と air pollutionの組み合わせ、depletion of natural resorces とthreats to biodiversityの組み合わせ と考えましたが（and が何と何を結んでいるのか考えるのが大切なので）and が複数あって、主語がはっきりわかっていないのだと思います 質問２、andの理解の仕方がまちがっているのでしょうか？ それとも posed by global warming, ocean and air pollution.... threats to biodiversityまでがby のあとにつながっているのでしょうか？全訳とかはしないで大丈夫です。ありがとうございます。

同時に二つの質問をさせていただきたいと思います。 一つ目はthatについてです。 高校の教科書を読んでいて次の文章が出てきました。 Every October, hundreds of thousands of albatrosses returned to the island to breed. There were so many of them "that" at a distance they looked like fallen snow. このような文章なのですが、この文章の"that"の意味が分からず、後半の文章が訳せません。 二つ目はandについてです。 こちらも文章を例に挙げます。 I "was" surrounded by nature and "was" always fascinated by birds and fish. こちらの文章は I "was" surrounded by nature and I"was" always fascinated by birds and fish. ということだと思っていて、納得がいきます。 もう一つの文章を例に挙げます。 Japanese researcher like you "to" study and protect it. こちらの文章ではなぜ Japanese researcher like you "to" study and "to" protect it. にはならないのでしょうか。 もし省略するが普通なのであればなぜ最初のwasが省略されないのでしょうか？ すごい初心者な質問かもしれませんが、教えてください

契約書に「except for and subject to 」という表現がありました。 なんだか矛盾する意味のようで、意味がわかりません。 except for and subject to the representations and warrantiesはどう訳すのでしょうか。 「表明保証を除き、それに従って？」 よろしくお願いします。

論文中の表現なのですが、 We can switch the system to and from A-mode to solve the problem and B-mode. という形の文の正確な意味がわかりません。。 なんとなくＡモード←→Ｂモードの切り替えができそうな気がするのですが、目的を表す「to solve the problem」の位置が何をあらわしていいるのか（どちらに切り替えた場合に問題が解決するのか）が理解できません。ご教示お願い致します。

James Thurberの『The Birds and the Foxes』という短編からの質問です。 Once upon a time there was a bird sanctuary in which hundreds of Baltimore orioles lived together happily. The refuge consisted of a forest entirely surrounded by a highwire fence. When it was put up, a pack of foxes who lived nearby protested that it was an arbitrary and unnatural boundary. However, they did nothing about it at the time because they were interested in civilizing the geese and ducks on the neighboring farms.
