big firms tend to have higher salaries and more generous benefits than small companies. 英英辞典では have は to include ,to containとありました。 たとえば、benefit from the talk with him 「彼との会話から恩恵を得る」、profit from the investiment 「投資から利益を得る」。 The talk with him benefited me 「彼との会話が私に恩恵を与えた」 The investiment profited him.「その投資が彼に利益を与えた」のようにしても使える。

The reason they gave for not promoting me was that I was worth more to the company as a salesman than a manager. I was worth more to the company as a salesman than a manager. は、 I was more worth to the company as a salesman than a manager.

The ones with more to lose are more likely to lose them. (placesは定員の空きのことです) He said: "It is not a case of saying that we have more applicants from state schools. Therefore, we must reduce places from independent schools. But if competition goes up, somebody will lose out on places. The ones with more to lose are more likely to lose them." St Hilda's, Oxford's only all-female college, typically receives far fewer applications than other colleges — less than one for every two places offered in classics, biology or chemistry, for instance — but gains from the university’s allocation of candidates who have expressed no college preference.

The important thing is to ensure safety rather than companies benefit. The transport company is responsible for keeping safety rather than companies benefit. The important thing is that transport company have safety rather than companies benefit.

that節の中に there is more to making a hero than merely the bottom line of success とあったのですが文の構造がよくわかりません。 (is以降) more ( to making a hero ) than ( merely the bottom line of success) と分けて考えて、 than以下は「成功という最終的な結果以上の」と訳して差し支えがなさそうなのですが(解答を見たら)、 more to making a hero とthan以下は文法的にどのように繋がっているのですか?

Earned income is currently taxed at a top rate of 39.6% for income over $418,400 for single filers and $470,700 for married couples. This option would impose an additional surtax of 4% on income above $5 million. The surtax would be imposed on adjusted gross income (AGI) so high earners could not use itemized deductions to reduce the amount of income subject to the tax.
