高校英語についてです！ Conflict should be dealt with through politics and not violence. という文があったのですが、なぜdealが過去、過去分詞のdealtになっているか分かりません。解説お願いします！

以下について教えてください。 (1) I know a boy (call) Tom. ( )の中を適する形に直す問題です。答えはcalledです。 これはcallingでは間違いですか？「トムを呼んでいる少年を知っています」とは ならないのでしょうか。 (2) (1)のように現在分詞や過去分詞に直す問題で、どちらにすればいいのかわからない時があります。修飾される名詞が「行動する側」なのか「される側」なのかで見分けていたのですが、それがあてはまらないようなこともあるように思います。より確実な判断方法はあるのでしょうか？ (3) with＋O＋分詞で「Oを～して」 (2)の質問とかぶるかもしれませんが Some people leave the car with the engine ( ) when they go shopping for a while. 答えはrunnningです。エンジンは「かけられるもの」なので過去分詞かと思ったのですが、runnningになるのはなぜでしょうか。 (4)各組の文がほぼ同じ内容になるようにする問題です。 People use this expression frequently. This is a ( ) ( ) expression. 答えは freqently used です。なぜこうなるかがわかりません…。 (5) Listening to the radio, I heard the bell ring. これを分詞構文の文に直すと、 While I was listening to the radio,～… となるとあります。Whileでないと間違いですか？Whenではいけないのでしょうか。 いろいろと調べてはみたのですが、あまり理解ができませんでした…。 文法的な解説をよろしくお願いいたします。

私大の長文問題の英文なんですが、 文の構造が難しくて解釈できないので 解説をお願いしたいです。 1. (1) ・send something ⇔ on (to)= to send something that has been recieved to another place so that it can be dealt with ・pass something ⇔ on (to)= to give a slight illness to someone else どちらにもonが使われていますが、このonは強い圧力だと思います。 onが無いよりも有った方が強い、そんな感じで使われているような気がしますが、どうでしょうか。 (2) By this time,the population of the islands had changed a great deal. これはa great deal(大きく)がcharged(変わった)を修飾しているのですか？→この時までに島の住民は大きく変化した。
